Banning ‘soup kitchens’ not the solution

On Thursday 3 July, ‘The Star’ published an article quoting Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor as saying that with immediate effect, ‘soup kitchens’ will no longer be allowed to operate within a 2km radius of Lot 10 (shopping mall), which covers a large area of Kuala Lumpur city centre.

+Positive+ Gimhāna Meditation Session

On Wednesday 25 June, devotees thronged Nalanda Centre to participate in the fifth meditation session of the on-going ‘Gimhāna Retreat’.  Those who are new to meditation were guided by Bro. Tan in a separate class, while seasoned meditators sat in the Shrine Hall.  After the group sitting, Bro. Tan gave an uplifting Dhamma teaching on “Being Positive” – one of the factors for achieving mental well-being.

Nalanda Centre Expansion – 50th Day Mark

Today marks the 50th day that work on the Nalanda Centre Expansion Project began.  The project is an extensive one, covering many details and technical challenges.  To date, 15% of the work has been completed, with safe and steady progress.

Achariya Vijaya heads Nalanda Education Team

Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama today assumes the Chair of Nalanda Education Team (NET), a committee comprising divisional and departmental heads of Nalanda Institute, Nalanda Dharma School, Pustaka Nalanda, and Free School.  The NET is tasked with overseeing the implementation of Nalanda’s education philosophy and approach in all programmes.

Fruitful Nalanda Members’ Day in Sri Serdang

On Sunday 22 June, Nalanda Members’ Day was successfully held at Nalanda Centre, attended by members from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur branches.  During the training session, Nalanda’s Founder Bro. Tan walked the members through the meaning of membership in Nalanda, and reminding all Nalandians to stay focused on the mission and vision of the Society.

Learning to nurture resilience

Tan delivered an inspiring talk on ‘resilience’.  He said that just as one requires physical stamina to carry out activities, resilience is required for continuous and fruitful cultivation of a good mind.

Delightful Evening with Āyasmā Kumāra

Fruitful workshop for young missionary bhikkhus

On 15 and 19 June, a workshop themed “The Young Buddhist Monk and His Role in the New Millennium” was held for Sri Lankan missionary monks based in Malaysia.  The two-day, multiple-session workshop was held at the Brickfields Buddhist Maha Vihara and the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul.
