BCA Workshop on Effective People Engagement

On Saturday 21 June, the Buddhist Community Alliance* (BCA) organized a “People Engagement Workshop” – the third in a series of such workshops for Buddhist community leaders.  The workshop was held at Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS) in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.  Its objective was to establish a protocol and system of “People Engagement” for gradual adoption.  A handbook on “People Engagement” will be published as a guide for implementing it in the respective participating organisations.

Building expansion Progressing well

Tomorrow marks the 40th day since the Nalanda Centre Expansion Project officially began. We are very thankful that work is progressing smoothly and steadily.  Currently, 10.5% of the scheduled work is already completed.  We look forward to your support and contributions as the Centre will eventually be used by the entire community.  Let us work together in building it for the welfare of many!  Thank you and mettā.

‘Happy Buddhists’ attend Service Sunday

On Sunday 8 June, Nalanda Centre was again filled with devotees eager to learn Dhamma.  The morning Service began with pūja, chanting and meditation.  After which, the congregation was delightfully surprised by the unexpected presence of Bro. Tan, who shared words of wisdom about ‘happiness’.

An inspiring evening with Ven. Ayya Santinī

On Monday 2 June, devotees had an inspiring evening listening to Ayya Santinī’s Dhamma talk during her three-day visit to Nalanda.  Ayya used the ongoing renovations at Nalanda Centre as an analogy for one’s spiritual journey.  The space (in our hearts) which was previously occupied for material gains is presently demolished, making room for spiritual activities in the future.

As one of the most revered Buddhist teachers in modern times, the late Ajahn Chah inspired thousands of Thai and foreign bhikkhus to practise according to the ‘forest monk’ tradition. Presently, his many disciples continue to widen the interests of the world in meditation and in living a simple way of life.

Visit by Hilir Perak Buddhist Society

On Sunday 15 June, 44 members of Persatuan Buddhist Hilir Perak (PBHP) from Teluk Intan led by their President Sis. Ooi Choon Peng visited Nalanda on a day trip to Selangor.  They were warmly received by Nalanda President Bro. Lee Kong Foo and Nalandian officers.

MH370 – 100 days on

It has been 100 days since the disappearance of MH370 on 8 March 2014; and it appears we are no closer to solving this mystery today.  Understandably, without concrete evidence and answers to the tragedy, there is perhaps a large void in the hearts of the victims’ families, and still no closure for many loved ones of the 239 people on board.

‘Jettha’ Full-moon Uposatha Service

On Thursday 12 June, devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre for the ‘Jettha’ month Full-moon Uposatha Day Service.  The day marked exactly one month after the Buddha’s enlightenment.  According to tradition, the Buddha spent that period pondering upon the many facets and details of Dhamma, and enjoying the bliss of ‘Nibbāna’.

Nalanda Centre Expansion Project

It has been a month since work started on the Nalanda Centre Expansion Project.  We are happy to report that renovation is progressing smoothly and steadily.  Demolition work is 100% finished, and our spirited workers are now casting the subterranean water tank and higher-level floor slabs.  Once completed, the expanded Nalanda Centre will be able to cater to 8,400 users a month comprising adult practitioners, students coming for Dhamma Studies, undergraduates, youths, and children.
