Nalanda JB Officers’ Plenary Session

It was a busy but productive Sunday for officers at NEO Centre Johor Bahru on 29 September.  After the morning service and Mandarin Talk by Bro. Tan, officers and volunteers tucked in for a pot-luck lunch.  In the afternoon, 20 Nalanda Johor Bahru officers joined Bro. Tan for a special meeting to plan programmes for the last quarter (October-December) of 2013, as well as to chart directions for 2014-2015.  With clarity of vision and purpose, the JB Branch Management would be able to lead the community progressively onward.

Calligraphy exhibition officially launched

The Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition was officially launched at Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang yesterday, graced by the presence of honoured guests, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Seri Kee Yong Wee, Adviser of Calligraphy Society of Malaysia, Datin Seri Kee-Mah Ming Yuet, Mr. Wong Ho, President of Calligraphy Society of Malaysia, and other distinguished calligrapher-members of the Society. Pūja in memory of Acharya Buddharakkhita

Bro. Tan led a group of Nalandians in a pūja this morning in honour of the most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita Maha Thero who passed away on Monday, 23 September, at the age of 91.  Bhante’s cremation ceremony is scheduled today in Bangalore at 10am local time.

Nalanda pays tribute to Achariya Buddharakkhita

Achariya Buddharakkhita Maha Thero  (1922 – 2013)

The most Venerable Achariya Buddharakkhita Sangha Nayake, the Founder of Maha Bodhi Society of Bangalore, an eminent educationist and humanitarian, passed away peacefully on 23 September 2013, at the age of 91, having spent 64 years as a Buddhist monk.

Enlightening Tour to Bujang Valley

90 youths and devotees had an enlightening tour to Bujang Valley on 15 September 2013, under the guidance of Bro. H S Tan.  Our one-day trip covered several archaeologically important sites such as Sungai Batu, Merbok, and Semeling, located in Kuala Muda district of Kedah.

Happy ‘Malaysia Day’!

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of our nation.  On 16 September 1963, the Federation of Malaya merged with the newly-independent states of Sarawak, Sabah and Singapore to form a new nation – Malaysia.  Although Singapore later left the federation in 1965, ties between our two states have nevertheless remained close over the decades.

New Batch of National Service Trainees

1 September 2013 saw the commencement of Service Sunday organised by Nalanda Youth Centre for the third batch of National Service (NS) trainees this year.  The 64 trainees, which are from the Semenyih NS Camp, will be hosted at Nalanda Centre every Sunday in September and October 2013, from 2pm to 5pm.

Nalanda Officers visit Kedah

Several senior Nalanda officers led by Deputy President Bro. Lee Teck Beng, arrived at Sungai Petani on 14 September for a brief visit to familiarize themselves with Kedahan Buddhist communities.  Besides Bro. Lee, the other officers include Honorary Treasurer Sis. May Wong, Assistant Secretary Sis. Mudita Chan, Manager Sis. Joyce Lim, KL Branch Pro-tem Chairman Bro. Eugene Yong, and KL Branch Assistant Secretary Sis. Ng Tung Yan.

Joyful ‘Dhamma’ gathering in Kedah

A packed hall of participants attended Bro. Tan’s Dhamma Talk in Sungai Petani on Friday, 13 September 2013.  Devotees from as far as Penang and Alor Setar came to listen to the teachings at Central Kedah Buddhist Association.  Bro. Tan spoke about the way to approach Dhamma – that is neither “landing short” of it, nor “over-reaching” it.  The Buddha-Dhamma is defined as a “Way leading to the cessation of craving, through gradual learning, practice and realization”.

Nalanda Youths receive their ‘Flags’

Nalanda Youth Centre officers - Sis. Sumana, Sis. Celestine, and Bro. Lee Kern - received the Buddhist and Nalanda Flags from Dharma School Director Sis. Sunanda Ong on 13 September, as they shall assume the responsibility of leading the youth team on a study tour to Kedah from 14-16 September. The youths will have 3 enriching days full of site-visits and learning activities together with Founder Bro. H S Tan.
