Joyful Conclusion to 2013 Gimhana Retreat

The 7-week Nalanda Gimhana Period came to a joyful conclusion on 22 July – the Asalha Full-moon ‘Dhamma Day’. This year’s Gimhana Retreat began on 8 June also on an Uposatha Day. Throughout these weeks, there were Dhamma teachings on Sundays and meditation sessions on Wednesdays. Besides, devotees were encouraged to practise daily morning and evening chanting at home, meditate, perform wise reflections, and do good altruistically everyday!

Theravada Buddhist Council’s 2nd AGM

The Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM) had its 2nd Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 20 July 2013, at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur.  The well-attended meeting deliberated on TBCM’s past year activities, and its medium to longer term programmes for the coming years.

Youth Groups visit Nalanda Centre

This week, Nalanda Centre continues to receive visitors from near and far.  On Wednesday 10 July, students from Multimedia University (MMU) Buddhist Group joined our meditation and Dhamma talk session.  On Sunday 14 July, Bro. How Chee Seng from Suttarama Kuala Terengganu came visiting.  The President and Dhamma Propagation Director of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore also made a 2-day visit starting Sunday.

Viewing through the lens of Dhamma

In Buddha’s teachings, ‘light’ is often used to symbolise wisdom. Viewed through the human eye, light is seen as a beam of bright translucence. In fact, the true nature of light is a combination of spectrums with different lengths of electro-magnetic waves. We are unable to see this without the help of various tools, which help us see things that have always been there, but just not visible to us before.

Sharing at Shah Alam Buddhist Society

On Sunday, 14 July, Bro. Tan was invited to Shah Alam Buddhist Society (SABS) for a sharing with their newly-elected office bearers on the qualities and roles of Buddhist leadership.  In his welcoming speech, the President of SABS Dato’ Vincent Lim emphasised the importance of having good leaders to propel Buddhist organisations forward and to fulfill the mission of propagating the Dhamma.

Nalanda Branch Officers’ Meeting

The first Nalanda Branch officers’ meeting was briefly held on Saturday, 13 July at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  15 Nalanda officers from 3 branches – Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Sungai Petani – met with Nalanda President Bro. Lee Kong Foo, Deputy President Bro. Lee Teck Beng, Secretary Sis. Buddhinī Tan, Treasurer Sis. May Wong, and (Acting) Branch Development Director Bro. Charlie Teng.

The first Nalanda Officers’ Workshop (N.O.W.) for 2013 was held on Saturday, 13 July at our spiritual home - Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. 64 Nalanda officers from 5 divisions and 4 branches (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Kedah) took part in this workshop.

Enriching visit to Singapore for the 8th Global Conference on Buddhism

The 8th Global Conference on Buddhism, with the theme "In the World of Rapid Change", was held at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See (KMSPKS) in Singapore from 6 - 7 July 2013.  1,300 participants took part in the largest gathering of its kind this year.  The Conference was organised by the Buddhist Fellowship and Buddhist Congress of Singapore, and supported by 5 other local organisations.
