Sunday morning service & Dhamma talk by Ven. Subharo

We joyfully invite you to join us this Sunday 23 July for the weekly morning service at Nalanda Centre.  The service starts at 9am with meditation, offerings and chanting.  This week’s service features a Dhamma teaching by Venerable Subharo, who hails from Canada and was ordained in 2008.  He currently resides in Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary, a leading monk training centre located in Taiping Perak.

Ajahn Kalyano visits Sungai Petani

On Tuesday 11 July, Nalanda leaders Sis. Buddhini, Sis. Nandini and Sis. Evelyn together with members of Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch were honoured to host Ven. Ajahn Kalyano, Abbot of Buddha Bodhivana Monastery in East Warburton, Victoria.  It was Ajahn’s first visit to Sungai Petani, and devotees up north were privileged to learn from this senior monk of the Ajahn Chah lineage.

Nalanda Dhamma School Parents-Facilitators Meeting

On Sunday 16 July, Nalanda Dhamma School (NDS) held a meeting to update the parents on the learning programme of both Teenage and Junior Dhamma School in Sri Serdang, and to provide an avenue for parents to share their thoughts.  Parents were also engaged in individual discussions with facilitators to exchange updates on students’ progress and address concerns.

Ajahn Jayasaro, this Saturday 22 July at Nalanda Centre.  Ajahn Jayasaro is transiting for just 1 day in the Klang Valley, on his way to Indonesia, hence let us take this opportunity to come together and learn from Ajahn in person.  The programme begins at 8pm.

Youths host leaders from KMB Widyodaya

On Sunday 16 July, Nalanda Youth Centre hosted 15 leaders and members from Komunitas Mahasiswa Buddhis (KMB) Widyodaya, the Buddhist Society of Prasetiya Mulya University in Jakarta, Indonesia.  They embarked on a trip to Malaysia and paid a visit to Nalanda after inviting Nalanda youths to share about Buddhist Education and how to run effective Dhamma programmes for youths.

MH17 downed nine years ago

Today, 17 July 2023, marks the ninth year since Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down while flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, killing all 298 people onboard.  After years of investigations and trial, the District Court of The Hague, Netherlands has convicted three people in absentia, on 17 Nov 2022.

Hosting Chanmyay Sayadaw at Wisdom Park

Just yesterday, Saturday 15 July, Nalanda members and volunteers were honoured to welcome and host Ven. U Janakābhivaṃsa, fondly known as Chanmyay Sayadaw and accompanying Sangha members at Wisdom Park. Chanmyay Sayadaw is a senior Burmese monk who practised Vipassana meditation under the instruction of the most Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw, and has been teaching meditation for over 55 years.

There will be a variety of items and food available at both Nalanda Centre in Sri Serdang, and also Nalanda Education & Outreach in Happy Garden. Pre-sales will start at 11.30am, after the Sunday Morning Service.

Spirited learning at ‘Entering the Stream’ Workshop

From 8 – 10 July, over 80 participants, facilitators and volunteers gathered for the ‘Entering the Stream and Beyond’ Sutta Study with Meditation Workshop led by Āyasmā Aggacitta at Wisdom Park.  To prepare themselves for this topic of interest especially for Dhamma practitioners, participants have been having on-line discussions based on the workbook and supported by facilitators since May.
