Pindacāra during Lunar New Year festivities

On Saturday 4 February, the community at O.U.G. and Happy Market gathered to perform the meritorious deed of dāna in support of the Mahā Sangha. Even as vendors and marketgoers are busy preparing for the last few days of the Lunar New Year festivities, many stepped forward to offer food and requisites at Pindacāra (monks on alms-round), experiencing the joy of giving especially to those worthy of honour.

Pray for victims of devastating earthquakes in Türkiye & Syria

On Monday 6 February, a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southeast Türkiye near the city of Gaziantep, at 4.17am local time.  Just 12 hours later, a second 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck 130 kilometers to the north, in the Elbistan district.  The deadly earthquakes left a trail of destruction in seven Turkish provinces and northern Syria.

Passing of Ven. Master Hsing Yun

It is with deep respect and a heavy heart that we observe the passing of Most Venerable Master Hsing Yun on Sunday 5 February 2023, at the age of 96. Born in Jiangsu Province, China, he received full ordination at the age of 15 and dedicated his life to propagate the Dhamma as a global citizen.

Happiness starts with us this festive season

On Sunday 15 January, over 80 Nalanda devotees and volunteers gathered for the morning service even as Lunar New Year celebrations are just around the corner.  On this occasion, Datuk Charlie Chia gave a Dhamma talk on ‘Harmony and Happiness’, to help us reflect on cultivation of wholesome states of mind as we reunite with our family and friends for the festivities.

Youth Centre hosts students from Universiti Malaya

On Sunday 8 January, the first Youth Sunday Service for 2023, Nalanda Youth Centre hosted 16 students from Persatuan Buddhist Universiti Malaya (PBUM) for a morning of Dhamma learning.  At the same time, the Youth Centre also welcomed graduates of Nalanda Dhamma School for their first Sunday service.

Ajahn Chah Memorial Day

16 January 2023 marks the 31st anniversary of Ajahn Chah’s passing. One of the most revered Buddhist teachers in the modern era, many monastics who trained with him at forest monasteries have themselves become renowned and respected teachers.  Three decades on, his unique ways of teaching still resonate among us today. Let us pay humble tribute to this great monk by taking time to reflect on his teachings and practising them faithfully.
