If you had visited Nalanda Centre over the weekend, it is almost as if Nalanda Centre had transformed into a monastery!  Everywhere you looked, the sight of recluses donning robes of different brown hues with glistening-shaven heads brought serene and reverent energy to the building.

Well-wishes to Bhante G on his 97th birthday

7 December 2024 marks the 97th birthday of the most Venerable Dr. Henepola Gunaratana Nayaka Thero, a highly-regarded speaker, meditation teacher, and senior prelate in North America.  Fondly known as ‘Bhante G’, Ven. Gunaratana has been propagating Dhamma in India, Malaysia and the United States of America for almost 8 decades.

A wholesome weekend ahead at Nalanda

This weekend is packed with wholesome programmes and events at Nalanda.  At this moment, members and volunteers are receiving Sangha members from across Malaysia, and will be hosting them over the weekend as they attend a training event in Kuala Lumpur.  At the same time, volunteers are currently hosting a retreat organised by Buddha-Dhamma Foundation Singapore and led by Ven. Luang Por Viradhammo at Wisdom Park.

PBUPM students meet & learn at Nalanda Centre

With the start of the academic year at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), its Buddhist Society leaders initiated their Dhamma and fellowship gatherings at Nalanda Centre for their new members. Young and energetic, the group relishes the opportunity to receive guidance from spiritual teachers alongside like-minded friends in a conducive learning environment. They also formed a community that can support each other outside the lecture rooms.

Family Dhamma Schools in KL and JB conclude their school year

Family Dhamma Schools at NEO Centres in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru concluded the 2024 school year on 24 and 30 November respectively.  Reflecting on their Dhamma learning journey, parents and children both shared their gratitude in being able to learn with the guidance of kalyana mittas, develop new friendship and grow closer as a family.

Learning to know the mind with Ajahn Karuniko

On Wednesday 27 November, Nalanda members and devotees had the opportunity to learn from Ajahn Karuniko in the evening service at Nalanda Centre.  Ajahn taught us ways to be aware of the mind states and reflect on our thoughts skilfully in order to maintain calm and respond wisely when faced with difficult situations.

Cultivating gratitude in our lives with Dr. Phang Cheng Kar

On Sunday 24 November, Nalanda members, devotees, Dhamma School facilitators and students gathered for the Samaggi Sunday Service, a tradition observed on the last Sunday of every month. The day also marked the final session in the Dhamma School year, and the congregation reflected with much gratitude on their learning journey.

Growing together as volunteers

Nandinī Tan, Sis. Paruadi Ramasamy and Bro. SY Tong, the group achieved a better understanding of the spirit and culture of community service.
