On Sunday 21 August, Nalanda Sri Serdang members gathered for Members’ Day for updates on the Society’s progress and upcoming plans.  It was a joyous start as new members were welcomed, all of whom have been serving in various capacities as core volunteers and are committed to Nalanda’s education mission.

Volunteers skill-up at Horticulture Course

In the past weeks since 16 July, participants of the first Horticulture and Landscape course (HCL 001) have joyfully gathered every Saturday at Wisdom Park to learn basic horticulture skills.  The classes are conducted by Dr. Chen Xing Wei Ph.D. (Horticulture), lead of the Landscaping Team at Wisdom Park.

The spirit of ‘veyyavacca’

On Sunday 31 July, Nalandians gathered to learn, practise and reflect on the spirit of ‘veyavacca’ during the Sunday Morning Service at Nalanda Centre.  In the Dhamma sharing, Sis. Nandini relayed that ‘veyavacca’ is part of our spiritual cultivation to develop liberality and kindness while supporting the community.  The spirit of service is based on thoughtfulness and consideration; when we are  sensitive to others’ need, we will try to help in whatever way we can.  It is not just an act of service but the idea of being in service to others.

A wholesome ‘Silver Lining’ Day

Last Sunday 7 August, 24 Nalanda youths and Dhamma School teenagers visited the Mon Refugee Children Learning Centre on ‘Silver Lining’ Day.  This programme organised by Nalanda Youth Centre, provides an avenue for young volunteers to practice kindness by offering their service to the community.

Welcoming new volunteers at V.I.P

On Sunday 24 July, 44 new volunteers joined the Volunteer Induction Programme at Nalanda Centre, organised jointly by the Volunteer Centre and Training & Enhancement Centre.  Participants were warmly welcomed as they start their journey as a Buddhist volunteer and introduced to the Nalanda Eight Core Values and the Society’s Vision and Mission centered around holistic education.

Uniting as a Dhamma community

On Sunday 17 July, Nalandians welcomed leaders and members of the Buddhist community to Nalanda Centre for a Dhamma Forum, held in conjunction with Dhamma Day B.E. 2566 .  To introduce the forum topic ‘Growing a Dhamma community’, the keynote address by Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama set the context of how the pandemic had affected the community, and what can we do to come back stronger than before, both personally and collectively.

Inspiring ‘Dhamma Day’ Observance

On Wednesday 13 July, over 150 devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre to commemorate ‘Dhamma Day’, the sacred day honouring the preaching of the Buddha’s first discourse after his Enlightenment – the ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta’. After reciting the seminal discourse together, Bro. Tan Siang Chye delivered a Dhamma talk about the journey of the Buddha in achieving Enlightenment. He shared how rare it was for a Samma-Sambuddha – a Fully Enlightened Buddha – to advent and teach the True Dhamma (Sadhamma).
