It is our duty to keep others safe

In just the last 4 weeks, another 6.7 million people have been infected by Covid-19 worldwide bringing the total number of infections to 16.7 million.  Over 650,000 of those infected have succumbed to the virus, and more than 66,000 are in critical condition.  The numbers are staggering and yet the peak is likely not over, according to experts.

Our waste is weighing down the world

Most of us are privileged to live a life in which our daily requirements such as food, clothing and entertainment are easily accessed.  Globally, this trend of consumption is increasing partly driven by the convenience that plastic packaging affords us.  Never before have so many products been individually packed for our ease of use; it has become the norm even when we are not on-the-go.

6th Anniversary of MH17 tragedy

Today marks the 6th anniversary of the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 which was enroute to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam.  Three hours after taking off from Schipol Airport, the Boeing 777 was shot down over Eastern Ukraine and all 298 lives on board were lost.

‘Dhamma Day’ Forum on Sigālovāda Sutta

Dhamma Day is observed on the full-moon day of Asalha to commemorate the day that the Buddha set in motion the ‘Wheel of Dhamma’ over 2,600 years ago.  This year's observance on Sunday, 5 July at 9.30am features a Dhamma Forum on ‘Lessons from Sigālovāda Sutta’ with Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama, Achariya Tan Siang Chye and Sis. Passing of Sayadaw Nyanapurnik

It is with deep respect and a heavy heart that we observe the passing away of Most Venerable Sayadaw Nyanapurnik Mahathera, the Sanghanāyaka of Nepal, on 3 July 2020.  Sayadaw succumbed to old-age illnesses which he had been battling for several years, and passed away peacefully early this morning.  He was 81.

The Covid-19 surge is not over

The world marked another grim milestone today with 10 million confirmed Covid-19 infections resulting in more than 500,000 deaths. Four large countries – the United States of America, Brazil, Russia and India – account for 50% of all cases reported globally. Indeed, the epicentre of this pandemic has shifted from Asia to Europe, North America, and now to Latin America.
