K. Sri Dhammananda – 102th Birthday

Today marks the 102th birth anniversary of the late Venerable Kirinde Sri Dhammananda, the Sangha Nāyaka Thera of Malaysia.  As usual, the traditional ‘Achariya Abhivadāna’ (‘Homage to the teacher’) was performed at Nalanda Centre this morning to offer reverence with deep gratitude to our late Spiritual Adviser.  Unfortunately, due to the current Restricted Movement Order imposed in Malaysia, the ceremony could not be open to the public this year.

First death in Malaysia from Covid-19

We are saddened to know the news of Pastor David Cheng from Kuching who passed away this morning due to Covid-19.  His death marks the first fatality in Malaysia from the deadly coronavirus currently plaguing the world.  We extend our deepest condolences to the family members, relatives and friends of Pastor David.  May he rest in Peace.

Temporary closure of Nalanda Centres

On 16 March 2020, the Prime Minister’s Office issued a directive for the temporary closure of all places of worship across Malaysia to stem the spread of Covid-19.  Thus, we would like to inform you that Nalanda Centre in Sri Serdang, as well as NEO Centres in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani will be closed temporarily from Wednesday, 18 March to Tuesday, 31 March 2020.

Important Notice on Covid-19 Pandemic

Suspension of Nalanda programmes and activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On 13 March 2020, the Prime Minister’s office issued a special address to Malaysians on the current situation of Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Based on the Ministry of Health’s advice, we are temporarily suspending all programmes at Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang, NEO Centres in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani, as well as at all Nalanda branch libraries.  This suspension has taken effect from 6.00PM on Sunday, 15 March 2020, and for an indefinite period.

Book Sponsorship

Nalanda is publishing a book to pay tribute to the late Venerable Dhammavuddho, who passed away on 22 December 2019.  The 160-page book will be published in time for his 100th Day Memorial Service later this month.  The national-level Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, 21 March at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul; and another service will be held on Sunday, 22 March at Nalanda Centre in Sri Serdang.

UPDATE :

Due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, the Registrar of Societies in their circular dated 16 March 2020 has directed the deferment of our A.G.M. to June 2020.  Therefore, notice is hereby given that the 17th A.G.M. scheduled on 22 March will not be held.  A new date for the A.G.M. will be decided and announced later by Nalanda Board of Management.  Thank you.

Faith in Buddha-Dhamma

On Sunday 9 February, Bro. Ananda Fong delivered a Dhamma talk on ‘Saddhā in Buddha-Dhamma’.  ‘Saddhā’, a Pāli word, refers to faith or confidence in the Three Jewels.  We develop this confidence by learning what the Buddha taught and more importantly, by applying the teachings and values in our daily lives.

Joy of Gratitude at ‘Tea-offering Ceremony’

Last Sunday 9 February, devotees, volunteers and Dhamma School students gathered at Nalanda Centre to participate in the “Tea-offering Ceremony” and Gratitude Day.  This annual tradition is hosted by Nalanda Dhamma School and is an opportunity for us to express our appreciation to our parents, teachers and elders for their support and care.
