Eager to learn Buddhist Scriptures & Doctrines

On Saturday 5 July, 46 registered participants attended the first lecture of the much-anticipated BPS 402 – Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies – offered by Nalanda Institute Malaysia.  A similar course (BPS 401) was last organised 5 years ago, also by Nalanda Institute’s Department of Buddhist & Pāli Studies, from July to December 2009.

‘Samatha’ & ‘Vipassanā’ Sutta Workshop

The ‘grand finale’ of the Samatha & Vipassanā Sutta Workshop series was held recently at Subang Jaya Buddhist Association (SJBA) on 5 – 6 July 2014.  It was the ninth workshop conducted by Venerable Aggacitta Mahathero since Nalanda Institute organised the inaugural ‘Samatha & Vipassanā Sutta Study with Meditation Workshop’ back in March.

Little-known but significant anniversary of “777”

7 July 2007 (popularly celebrated back then as “777”) witnessed the first programme ever organized by the newly-established ‘Nalanda Institute Malaysia’.  It was the ‘BPS138 Commentarial Course on Mangala Sutta’, conducted by Nalanda Institute’s Founder-Director Bro. H S Tan.  The main hall of the old ‘Nalanda Dharma Centre’ was packed with more than 70 participants all deeply inspired after attending the full-day course.

Enriching Course on ‘Dhammacakka Sutta’

In conjunction with the upcoming ‘Dhamma Day’, Nalanda Institute Malaysia offered a commentarial course on the ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta’ on Saturday 28 June at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  The course which was conducted by the Institute’s Director-Emeritus, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama, saw a good turnout of 105 participants.

Higher Certificate course begins on Saturday

The much-anticipated BPS402 Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies programme will begin this Saturday, 5 July 2014.  This 5-month course is offered by Nalanda Institute’s Department of Buddhist & Pāli Studies (BPS).  It is suitable for those who have obtained basic qualifications in Buddhist Studies and who wish to deepen their learning and understanding.

Mandarin Buddhist Course continues in J.B.

Last weekend (28–29 June), devotees in Johor Bahru continued their monthly lessons in the Mandarin Buddhist Course organised by Nalanda Institute Malaysia.  On Saturday 28 June, Sis. Nandini Tan conducted lectures on “What Buddhism Is”, “Three Jewels”, and “Five Precepts” for 35 course participants in the conducive environment of NEO Centre Johor Bahru.

7th Anniversary of Nalanda Institute Malaysia

1 July 2014 marks the 7th Anniversary of Nalanda Institute Malaysia.  Since its establishment in 2007, the Institute has been organizing many short and medium-term courses up to Higher Certificate level, commentarial courses, meditation workshops, pilgrimages to India and Nepal, study tours locally and abroad, and leadership and management training programmes aplenty.

Leadership Renewal at Nalanda Institute

Today (30 June) marks the last day of Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama’s term as the second Director of Nalanda Institute Malaysia.  Succeeding Achariya Vijaya tomorrow (which is also the Institute’s 7th Anniversary) is Achariya Tan Siang Chye, who is appointed to the post for a 3-year tenure.
