Youths learn about mindfulness with Bro. Jeff Oliver

On Sunday 28 January, youths gathered at Nalanda Youth Centre to learn from Bro. Jeff Oliver, a Vipassana meditation teacher.  Bro. Jeff shared the importance of maintaining mindfulness in our daily lives as much as we can, in order to train the mind to stay in the present moment.  This helps us to gradually understand the realities of life, and greatly enables our progress in meditation.

Spirit of sportsmanship shines on ‘Sports Day’

On Sunday 21 January, Nalanda Youth Centre hosted the year’s first Sports Day.  Over 60 youths and Dhamma School students had an exciting morning at Taman Tasik Sri Serdang putting to test their skills in effective communicating, ability to work in teams and camaraderie.

F.U.N. completes its run with blessings

The Fellowship Undergraduate Network (F.U.N.) programme completed its 6-session run on Saturday 18 November.  This specially planned programme for university students enabled participants to explore the theme of ‘Leading with Purpose’ and to cultivate leadership qualities for personal and professional success.

Farewell & safe journeys to our Ladakhi friends

Earlier this morning, Ven. Sanghasena and participants of the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) have set off for Singapore on the final leg of the exchange programme.  Nalanda leaders and youths bade a heartfelt farewell to our dear friends, with whom  strong bonds of friendship have emerged through 10 days of learning, reflection and camaraderie.

Ven. Sanghasena leads pindacāra at O.U.G & Happy Garden

On Saturday 18 November, Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch was honoured to host Ven. Sanghasena for pindacāra (monks on alms-round) at the local morning markets.  Market-goers and vendors who were familiar with the monthly programme (held on the first Saturday of every month) joyfully offered requisites to the Sangha, with gratitude for the added opportunity to do good.

Y.E.P. guided in meditation by Ven. Mettananda

On Friday 17 November, Nalanda members and devotees joined the participants of the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), for Meditation Night led by Ven. Mettananda.  Sharing the importance and benefit of meditation, Ven. Mettananda started by asking how accurate we think our perception of reality is and pointed out that historically, widely believed ‘realities’ have been overturned such as the perception that the world is flat.

Ven. Sanghasena and Nalanda leaders visit Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple

Just yesterday, on Sunday 19 November, Ven. Sanghasena, Nalanda leaders and participants of the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) visited Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple 佛光山东禅寺 in Jenjarom, Selangor.  Warmly hosted by its abbess, Ven. Jue Cheng (觉诚法师) and her team, the leaders and youths learned from each other through a fruitful exchange.

Nottingham Buddhist Society learns ‘kamma’ with Nalanda Youth

On Thursday 9 November, Bro. Ajit Lim delivered a Dhamma talk about the universal law of cause and effect (‘kamma’ and ‘vipaka’) at Nottingham Buddhist Society’s weekly gathering. It was an apt topic for the university students, to help them better understand how to face the many vicissitudes of life.  With the knowledge that every intentional thought, speech and action has its corresponding effect, the students reflected on how they can better direct themselves towards wholesome behaviours and a more meaningful life.
