On Saturday 18 June, six volunteer librarians from the Buddhist Māhavihāra (BMV) received training at Nalanda on how to use the OPAC library cataloging system. A special session to understand the functions and capabilities of the OPAC system was conducted by Pustaka Nalanda (Library) Director Bro. Ananda Fong, IT Manager Bro. Lam, and Operations Manager Sis. Chin.

They had a fruitful discussion with the branch librarians and volunteers about sorting and re-organising the library catalogue. This commemoration day programme was both initiated and organised by Pustaka Nalanda (the library). The commemoration service began with pūja and chanting, followed by Dhamma teachings by Nalanda Founder Bro Tan. He spoke about values that Ven. Pustaka Nalanda (Library) holds a collection of Buddhist books authored by the late Venerable Narada Nāyaka Māha Thero (1898 – 1983), a prolific Dhamma teacher, speaker, writer and translator from Sri Lanka. Some of his works such as the seminal “The Buddha and His Teachings” has become a classic ‘textbook’ for students of Theravāda Buddhism.

Read moreOn Saturday 5 April, President of Buddhadasa Indapañño Archives Dr. Bunchar Pongpanich presented Nalanda Library with precious copies of “WITHOUT and WITHIN – Questions and Answers on the Teachings of Theravāda Buddhism”, in conjunction with Bro. Tan’s visit to Bangkok. The book authored by Phra Ajahn Jayasaro is a collection of 150 questions and answers on Theravāda teachings on various subjects such as the Three Jewels, Buddhist attitudes, and the Path of Practice.
