1 January 2013 marks the birth of Nalanda Youth Library. This new addition to our expanding Pustaka Nalanda caters to the learning needs and reading interest of youths and young adults. We were honoured to have the presence of Venerable Sing Kan and Nalanda’s founder, Bro. H S Tan at the simple yet meaningful launching ceremony on 6 January 2013.

Shortly after her ordination, Mahapajapati Gotami asked the Buddha for a short Dhamma instruction that would guide her in her solitary practice. The Buddha gave a discourse on the eight principles for recognizing what qualifies as Dhamma and Vinaya, and what does not. The eight principles have been widely cited ever since. The Youth Library will also support the educational programmes of Nalanda Dharma School, Nalanda Free School, and Nalanda Youth Centre. The Youth Library will be operated by librarians recruited from Nalanda Youth Centre and Nalanda Dharma School, under the guidance of experienced librarians.
