Today marks the 111th Birth Anniversary of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister and “Father of Independence”, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. The Tunku led a group of visionary and courageous Malayan leaders in working together to achieve the nation’s independence in 1957, and to form ‘Malaysia’ in 1963.
The Tunku’s vision for the nation was based on mutual understanding, respect, tolerance, and moderation. Above all, he cherished the harmony between various ethnic groups and religions among Malaysians, and laid the foundation for the nation’s social stability and progress.
We commemorate the Tunku and Malaysia’s founding fathers for their immense contributions, ideals, and integrity. Let us celebrate the Tunku’s birthday today by being good and noble citizens, with compassion for fellow countrymen, living in harmony and moderation.
“If you think you are rich, there are many who are richer than you. If you think you are clever, there are more people cleverer than you. But if you think you are honest, then you are among the few, and in this instance, it is best to be among the few.”
