Course on ‘True Significance of Wesak’

Sis. Sandy elaborated on the Buddha Gotama’s birth, striving, and realization, with emphasis placed upon moral and spiritual values.

The final module of ‘Buddhist Devotional Practice’ series on the topic “True Significance of Wesak”  was conducted by Nalanda Institute’s tutors Sis. Sandy Lim and Bro. Tong Siong Yeow on Saturday, 10 May.

Sis. Sandy explained that Wesak full-moon commemorates the birth, Enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha.  Stories of Siddhattha Gotama’s birth, striving, and realization were told, with emphasis placed upon moral and spiritual values to help participants understand the Buddha’s spiritual journey as well as the supremacy of ‘Dhamma-Vinaya’ to eliminate Dukkha.

Bro. Tong spoke about the spiritual and communal aspects of Wesak Day and encouraged everyone to participate joyfully and mindfully during Wesak celebrations.

The session ended with participants expressing gratitude to the tutors and Nalanda Institute for offering this informative course.  With joyful hearts, participants left with renewed aspirations for observing a spiritual Wesak in 2014.
