Deadly airplane crash in Nepal

The plane hit the ground in the gorge of the Seti River, just over a kilometre from the airport where it was to land.

On Sunday 15 January, Nepal’s Yeti Airlines ATR 72 crashed into the gorge of the Seti Gandaki River just as it was due to land at Pokhara International Airport.  The plane had departed from the country’s capital of Kathmandu at 10.30am local time carrying 72 passengers and crew.  Rescuers have recovered 68 bodies so far and continue to search for the remaining four.  Sadly, authorities report that no one is believed to have survived this tragedy, the country’s worst aviation disaster since 1992.

The plane broke into pieces as it hit the hills at the gorge.

We express our deepest condolences to the families of casualties in this horrific incident.  We wish them much strength, courage, and peace in facing this catastrophe.  Let us send thoughts of loving-kindness in these hours of mourning. ‘Santi’ – Peace.
