Today, on the full-moon day of Āsāḷha month, we commemorate the momentous occasion when the Buddha preached the First Sermon (the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta) to the Five Ascetics in Isipatana, two full-moons after His Enlightenment. The ‘Wheel of Dhamma’ was set in motion for the benefit, happiness and liberation of countless beings.
The Dhamma – ‘principles which uphold the natural order of the universe’, leads us on the path to our own Enlightenment should we undertake efforts to learn, internalise and then realise these truths for ourselves. Those who walk this path are able to relinquish hatred, anger and jealousy, and gain the joys of loving-kindness, compassion and contentment here and now.
We invite you to join us for the Full-moon Uposatha Service tonight at Nalanda Centre. The service will start at 8pm with offerings, chanting, meditation and reciting the ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta’. On this blessed event, there will also be a Dhamma talk by Bro. Tan Siang Chye. Let us take time to reflect on our own spiritual aspirations, and fill our hearts with deep gratitude for the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha. Happy ‘Dhamma Day’.
