Venerable Ajahn Jayasaro was born on the Isle of Wight in 1958. He joined Ajahn Sumedho’s community in England for the 1978 Rains Retreat as an ‘anagarika’. In November that year, he left for Wat Pah Pong in Northeast Thailand, where he later ordained as a ‘bhikkhu’ under the tutelage of Venerable Ajahn Chah.
From 1997 to 2002, Ajahn Jayasaro was the abbot of Wat Pah Nanachat, the famous international monastery of Ajahn Chah’s forest tradition. He now lives in a hermitage at the foothills of Kao Yai mountain in Thailand.
Ajahn Jayasaro is a well-known and highly respected Dhamma teacher throughout Thailand; he is also a distinguished author and editor of several publications, including the popular “Without and Within: Questions & Answers on the Teachings of Theravāda Buddhism”.
Ajahn Jayasaro has a special interest in Buddhist education; he is the spiritual adviser to several schools in Thailand. Since 2005, Ajahn Jayasaro had been to Malaysia several times to give Dhamma teachings at the invitation of Nalanda Buddhist Society. He was a speaker at Nalanda Institute’s WACANA Conferences in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
