A reflection by Bro. KS Yap
Every year, families come together on the eve of the Lunar New Year for the ‘Reunion Dinner’, a must-have before we welcome the new year. My family looks forward to this gathering with our loved ones because it is not just another meal; it is an intrinsic representation of family values and blessings.
The ability to have the Reunion Dinners and get-togethers with loved ones from near and far are themselves blessings. We are blessed to be able to gather with our elders and family in a peaceful country with a healthy body and mind, as well as having sufficient fare to share.
At the same time, we can do more than enjoy the sumptuous meal by ‘serving’ understanding, kindness and compassion. We can bring about rejoiceful & wholesome news, be encouraging to each other and strengthen our family relationships. Savour the moments of laughter and personal connection which are especially precious, amidst the busy lifestyles in today’s fast-paced world.
Let us reflect on our part in contributing to meaningful reunions and gatherings during the upcoming festivities. May we also remind ourselves and those around us to cherish the harmony at the table instead of just the food in front of us.
