Speaker Profile : Venerable Dr. Chandima Gangodawila is an Assistant Professor of Buddhist Philosophy at Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. He serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal of International Buddhist Studies (JIBS), published by the Buddhist Research Institute of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU), Thailand.
Previously, he was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society (CSRS) at the University of Victoria, Canada, and held the position of Theravāda Buddhist Chaplain at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada from 2012 to 2016. His latest peer-reviewed publication, “The Function and Contemporary Role of Sikkhāpaccakkhāna (Abandoning the Training Rules) in the Pāli Canon,” appeared in the Journal of Buddhist Ethics, published by Pennsylvania State University Press, USA.
His research rigorously engages with Buddhist hermeneutics, Buddhist Ethics, and contemplative praxis, offering critical insights into the intersection of canonical exegesis and contemporary Buddhist thought. He is currently working on a research article examining monastic reforms in Sri Lanka in response to crimes committed by some novice and senior monks, with publication expected later this year.
