Gratitude on Nalanda Patron’s Day

Nalandians pay respects and circumambulate the memorial stupa of our late Spiritual Advisor.

18 March is observed as “Nalanda Patron’s Day” – an annual programme to commemorate and appreciate all our donors, benefactors and volunteers who have contributed tremendously to the growth of Nalanda, and by extension, to the development of Buddhist education.  Commemorated since 2007, the date marks the birth anniversary of Nalanda Buddhist Society’s late Spiritual Advisor – Venerable Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nāyaka Thero who would be 103 if he were alive.

On this day, Nalanda members and devotees perform wholesome deeds and dedicate merits to our benefactors for their well-being and happiness.  In keeping with tradition, Nalandians visited the Buddhist Maha Vihara in Brickfields to pay respects to our late Chief and offer Sanghika Dana with faith and devotion.  It is also with gratitude, that on this day we recollect our parents, teachers, family and good friends, we are grateful for their care and guidance which helped us be better and useful to the community.

We dedicate these merits to our late teacher Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda and to all our benefactors, supporters, and volunteers.  May they be well and happy.
