On Tuesday 4 March, Nalanda Youth Centre started its 8-week ‘Happy Young Adults’ Programme, a platform dedicated for young adults, to learn to thrive and overcome stress at work and in life. Held at Nalanda Education & Outreach Centre in Happy Garden, young working adults from different industries gather to learn from corporate leaders and professionals, reflecting on how they can apply their lives to the Dhamma.
In this first session, Bro. Tan Siang Chye shared on the topic ‘Well-being in Work and in Life’, emphasising on the importance of maintaining the eight key well-beings – physical, emotional, environmental, financial, occupational, social, intellectual and spiritual to lead a happy life. Knowing and living by our true values instead of allowing external factors to influence the way we live, is important to have a good well-being.
The key to achieving good well-being is by seeking lasting happiness instead of temporary pleasure. He further encouraged us to find meaning in work and life instead of chasing after material wealth. This served as a great reminder of the impermanence of the pleasure rooted in worldly grasping and to see that true happiness is in letting go.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Bro. Siang Chye for the useful tips to balance well-being in work and life. May the young adults continue in their learning and also build meaningful friendships together throughout the programme. Sadhu!
