Hosting and learning with Ven. Ajahn Visālo

Nalanda members and devotees were priviledged to host and learn from Ajahn Visālo for a week in his recent trip to Malaysia.

From 21 to 26 March, Nalanda Centre hosted Ven. Ajahn Visālo, an Indonesian monk who ordained under Luang Por Liem, Abbot of Wat Nong Pah Pong.  Devotees and members were grateful for the opportunity to associate with a well-practised teacher to learn the Dhamma and make offerings.

In his Dhamma talk, Ajahn Visālo shared that all beings live to be happy and avoid discomfort.  However, to live meaningfully, we cannot rely on just pleasing our wants and desires.  Cultivating oneself in dāna, sīla and bhavana will enable joy and peace that is not dependent on external sources, to arise.  We should also hone our mindfulness to help us gradually relinquish unwholesome thoughts, speech and action.

Ajahn advised us to be diligent in practising dana, sila and bhavana.

Dr. Chen and Sis. Nandini brought Ajahn on a tour of the educational campus.

We extend our appreciation to Ajahn Visālo for affording these opportunities to learn and reflect on Dhamma with his guidance, and hope that Ajahn will come to visit us again when he is in Malaysia.  We wish Ajahn good health and fulfilment in his spiritual endeavours.  Sadhu.
