Insightful meditation with Ven. Alokavamsa at NEO KL

Participants sat observing the process of breathing in and breathing out.

On 8 June 2023, Venerable Alokavamsa was invited to lead the weekly Thursday meditation session at NEO Centre, Kuala Lumpur.  Venerable hails from Indonesia and was residing in Nalanda for 3 weeks to visit different Buddhist centres around Malaysia.

The session started with chanting and a simple guidance for meditation on ways to observe the breath.  Venerable Sir then delivered a teaching on Ānāpānasati (Mindfulness of the Breath) with reference to Mahā-satipaṭṭhāna Sutta, a discourse on ways to develop mindfulness (大念处经 DN 22).

Ven. Alokvamsa led the meditation session.

Venerable Alokavamsa gave a detailed explanation on meditation, as taught by the Buddha.

Venerable shared that the practising meditation is for purpose of purifying the mind to overcome grief and lamentation, for the extinction of pain and sorrow, for the attainment of fruition (magga), and for the direct realisation of Nibbāna.  He also explained the four ways of establishing mindfulness on the body, feelings, mind and dhammas (Satipatthana).

The devotees were very joyful after attending the session and shared that Venerable Sir’s teaching was practical with simple steps which were useful for their daily practice.  Thank you Bhante for your guidance to our community.  Sadhu anumodana!
