Learning about ‘Merits and Parami’ with Dr. Ng Wai Chong

Dr. Ng’s sharing gave the audience a deeper perspective of merits and parami.

On Sunday 29 September, over 130 devotees gathered to learn about ‘Merits and Parami’ with Dr. Ng Wai Chong, who works with governmental and charities in Singapore and worldwide, on the support and care of vulnerable adults and older person.

In his talk, Dr. Ng shared the Buddha’s teachings on kamma and vipaka (cause and effect).  One who has a right understanding of this will be better able to accept worldly inequalities as well as develop resilience towards challenges in life.

The service began with meditation, offerings to the Three Jewels and morning chanting.

Adults and youths had a joint service to learn with Dr. Ng

Sis. Joanne Tan delivered the Samaggi Day message.

Devotees had opportunities to ask questions.

The cultivation of ‘sila’, ‘samadhi’ and ‘panna’ (morality, concentration and wisdom), will result in its commensurate merits.  When one cultivates these noble qualities with compassion, skillful means, and is untainted by craving, conceit, and views, one is in fact perfecting one’s ‘parami’ which brings about suitable conditions for enlightenment.

We extend our appreciation to Dr. Ng for being with us over the last weekend, and imparting to us a deeper insight into these pertinent topics.  You may view the full talk by clicking this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmDnZWMKryUSadhu.

Sharing of merits after the talk.

Youths continued their learning with a reflection in smaller groups.
