Last weekend (28–29 June), devotees in Johor Bahru continued their monthly lessons in the Mandarin Buddhist Course organised by Nalanda Institute Malaysia. On Saturday 28 June, Sis. Nandini Tan conducted lectures on “What Buddhism Is”, “Three Jewels”, and “Five Precepts” for 35 course participants in the conducive environment of NEO Centre Johor Bahru.
Sis. Nandini advised the participants to start practising the Dhamma by keeping the Five Precepts well, after gaining right understanding of what Buddhism is, and what the Three Jewels are. She said, “We can start with small steps, and gradually change our habits as we progress.”
A joyful Service Sunday was conducted on 29 June morning with devotees gathering at the Shrine Hall for meditation, pūja and chanting. Sis. Nandini reflected on a World Cup football match which she watched recently. She shared that in order to be successful, we should set the right purpose in life, just as players direct the football towards the goal-post.
The second element to succeed is establishing ‘connections’ among the team players. Everyone in the team should make an effort to understand, bond and interact positively with each other. Setting the right purpose and connection among the team members is essential to lead a happy life together. Devotees felt much benefited and inspired from the two-day sessions as the knowledge they gained will enable everyone to handle daily encounters more successfully. Sadhu anumodana!
