Meditation retreat guided by Ven. Gavesi

Meditation retreat guided by Ven. Gavesi

We are grateful for this opportunity to learn from Ven. Gavesi in a conducive environment amidst lush greenery.

From 16 to 25 June, 40 meditators and volunteers gathered at Wisdom Park for a 10-day Meditation Retreat guided by Venerable Gavesi.  At the onset of the retreat, meditators received  clear instructions on Vipassana meditation by Ven. Gavesi, who trained in Samatha and Vipassana techniques under teachers including the late Sayadaw U Pandita, the late Sayadaw Nyanapurnik, and Ven. Sujiva.

The meditators kept strictly to the daily schedule which started in the early hours of the morning and alternated between hourly walking and sitting sessions.  Ven. Gavesi continued giving the group guidance in the evening talks, in line with their progress in strengthening their mindfulness.  Each yogi also had opportunities to quell their queries and doubts about their practice in interview sessions.

Ven. Gavesi provides a guidance on what the meditators should do during the sessions, at the start of the retreat.

Sis. Nandini welcomed the meditators and briefed them about the schedule as well as etiquette during the retreat.

Walking meditation helps to build up our mindfulness, which greatly helps when we go into the sitting sessions.

We extend our appreciation to Ven. Gavesi for his care and compassion in guiding the practitioners in this arduous experience of cultivating the mind.  We also thank the organising team and volunteers for their efforts in making this retreat a success.  Let us rejoice in the diligence of the meditators in their practice and may they continue to journey closer to their realisation of truth.  Sadhu anumodana!

An hour of sitting in the evening before the Dhamma talk.

Every evening, Ven. Gavesi gives a Dhamma talk that aligns with the meditators’ progress.

The group takes the Three Refuges and Eight Precepts, led by Ven. Gavesi.

Yogis are also guided in how to properly explain their experience in the interview sessions.

Ven. Gavesi answers questions posed by the meditators.

Sis. Nandini leads the group to thank Ven. Gavesi for his guidance and teaching, and also to seek for forgiveness.
