In the last 2 days, Nalanda members have been deeply exploring the theme “Towards a Buddhist Missionary” at the 9th Nalanda National Members’ Convention being held at Wisdom Park. This culminated in a forum this afternoon, to learn from the personal life stories and motivations of three dedicated members who have each persevered in their Dhamma learning and service to the Buddhist community.
Moderated by Bro. Tong Seong Yeow, panellist Bro. Ananda Fong, Director of Nalanda Dhammaduta College, shared that his determination to avail the Buddha’s teachings and dispel misconceptions was inspired by the work of our late spiritual adviser, Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda. Sis. Evelyn Chow, the Society’s immediate past president, was driven by gratitude of being able to systematically learn and embed Dhamma in her daily life at Nalanda, as well as the joy of enabling others to benefit from the same.
The youngest panellist, Bro. Yeo Disheng, a former student of Nalanda Dhamma School and now Nalanda Youth leader had dedicated his career to Dhamma work because of how the Buddha’s teachings has improved his quality of mind. Having benefitted from teenage and youth programmes since he was 13, he is now committed to continue learning and improving, as well as serving the Sāsana.
Learning from how they stayed true to the mission and were resilient in managing the ups-and-downs in their journey of service to the community, members also related to how they overcome challenges by adopting a mature view of growing through adversities. We thank our panelists for their inspiring sharings and rejoice in their wise reflections. Sadhu anumodana.
