It is with much joy and profound gratitude that I write this message on the happy occasion of Nalanda Institute’s 16th Anniversary. This remarkable milestone symbolizes many years of unwavering dedication to the study, practice, and dissemination of the Buddha’s sublime teachings. The first few months of this year witnessed many Buddhist organisations opening up for in-person activities. With the easing of restrictions, Buddhists have been able to meet face-to-face, keeping the fervour of kalyana mitta burning bright in our community. I do hope that we will soon close the unfortunate chapter of the Covid-19 pandemic with a deep measure of optimism.
Thinking back, we have learnt much from this bleak period. As a teaching organisation we have expanded our set of on-line tools to carry out our duties. Using dynamic software such as Google Classroom we have shared resources effectively in the delivery of modules and the sharing of information in various formats. It is our hope to build upon this knowledge to make the delivery of our future programmes more engaging and exciting. We also had the opportunity to share our Saddha with our Dhamma friends through forums that encouraged us to fortify our mental strength in order to confidently withstand the difficult years of the pandemic.
The successful culmination of two BPS 104 Mandarin courses, in 2022 and in 2023, reflects our Institute’s dedication to disseminating the Buddha’s teachings in both English and Chinese. Language is viewed as an effective platform in opening channels for our objectives. More than 110 participants had completed the courses, benefitting from developing a basic understanding of what the Buddha taught. Many testified that they experience positive changes in their behaviours and have a zeal to continue in their practice, which is strengthened by spiritual friends. Dhammapada Study Sessions to further understand the sublime verses have been organised, with the first session on Buddha Day.
I again call attention to the support of my wonderful team of committed colleagues at Nalanda Institute in achieving this year’s successes. Everyone involved carried out the responsibilities with enthusiasm and dedication, ensuring that our objectives were satisfactorily achieved. I rejoice in having such a wonderful team. We look forward to offering further compelling avenues to our community to learn the Buddha’s teachings in the coming months.
On this special occasion, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the lecturers, facilitators, volunteers, and supporters who have contributed their time and expertise to make our institute what it is today. Your dedication and tireless efforts have been instrumental in our success, and I am deeply grateful for your unwavering commitment. Donors, sponsors, and the management of Nalanda Buddhist Society deserve a special mention, providing us with all the resources needed together with much warm friendship and encouragement.
May the Buddha-Sāsana thrive in the world for the good of all.
