Nalandians attend Theravada Council meeting

TBCM's Annual General Meeting on 28 May 2016.

Delegates and representatives of member organisations attending TBCM’s recent Annual General Meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

On 28 May, Nalanda President Sis. Evelyn Chow led the Nalandian delegation to attend the Annual General Meeting of Theravada Council of Malaysia (TBCM), held at Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Kuala Lumpur.  Bro. Ananda Fong, Bro. Pee Che Yong, and Sis. Joanne Tan were the Society’s other representatives at the AGM.

Nalanda Buddhist Society is one of the founding members of TBCM, which is a federation of Theravada temples and societies; it currently has 42 member organisations nationwide.  This year’s AGM discussed issues that affect the Malaysian Buddhist community in general, particularly the need for better education, leadership training, and youth development programmes.

The AGM also elected the new Executive Committee that will lead the Council for the next two years.  The new committee is headed by President Bro. Tan Leng Huat of Malacca, Deputy President Bro. Tan Kim Chan, Honorary Secretary Bro. Lee Kok Cheng, and Treasurer Sis. Paruadi Ramasamy.

Nalanda Buddhist Society would like to record our appreciation to the outgoing Executive Committee members for their contributions over the past two years.  We also congratulate the newly elected Exco members and wish them a joyful term of service.  May the Council successfully implement programmes for the welfare and benefit of the Malaysian Buddhist community.
