The last day of ‘Centenary Celebrations’

17 March 2019 marks the last day of the year-long ‘K. Sri Dhammananda Centenary Celebrations’ which brought Buddhists across Malaysia together to celebrate the life and contributions of the late Venerable K. Sri Dhammananda (1918 – 2006).  The Centenary Celebrations was launched exactly a year ago on 17 March 2018 at the Buddhist Mahā Vihara, Kuala Lumpur.

Nalanda Buddhist Society’s 16th A.G.M.

All members of Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia registered at Sri Serdang headquarters are reminded to attend the 16th Annual General Meeting on Sunday, 17 March.  Members will review last year’s activities, and discuss the Society’s latest development plans.   The 2019-2021 term Board of Management will also be elected at this A.G.M.  Let us come together to chart our future!

Another ‘dark day’ for humanity

This afternoon, a lone gunman stormed into two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, and opened fire randomly at worshipers, killing 50 people and injuring dozens others.  Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described this act of terrorism as one of New Zealand’s “darkest days”.

Gratitude flows at Nalanda

On 17 February, over 300 students, parents and devotees participated in the annual tea-offering ceremony organised by Nalanda Dhamma School in conjunction with the Lunar New Year.  An age-old tradition, the ceremony is an avenue for children to show appreciation to their parents who have relentlessly showered them with love and support.

Tragic air crash in Ethiopia

A scheduled Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi crashed shortly after it took off this morning, at around 8.44AM local time.  The Boeing 737-800 MAX aircraft was carrying 149 passengers and eight crew members.  As of press time, there were no news of any survivors.

Today, we mark the poignant 5th anniversary of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 on 8 March 2014.  Let us spend a moment to reflect on the characteristic of life – its fleeting nature, impermanence, and uncertainty. “Sabbe sankhara anicca’ti” – all conditioned things are impermanent, indeed.

Hosting friends from Dhammajata Vihara

On 20 January, Nalandians were honoured to host friends from Dhammajata Vihara, Pulau Pinang, led by their Abbot, Venerable Dhammasiri.  The Society’s President Sis. Ong Ah Mooi, Deputy President Bro. Ng Chin Teck and 36 members accompanied Venerable Dhammasiri on this visit to the Klang Valley.
