Birth centenary of an iconic Dhammaduta

Today is the 100th birth anniversary of the late Venerable Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nāyaka Mahā Thero (1918 – 2006),  Sanghanāyaka Thera of Malaysia and Singapore, and Spiritual Adviser to Nalanda Buddhist Society.  Nalandians humbly pay tribute to his immeasurable contributions to the development of Malaysian Buddhism, and his invaluable teachings for our understanding and appreciation of Buddha-Dhamma.

Obituary – Ven. Dr. T. Sangharatana

It is with deep respect and a heavy heart that we announce the passing away of Venerable T. Sangharatana Nāyaka Thero earlier today, 17 March 2018.  He was well regarded for his social service in Bangalore, India, as the founding member of the Maha Mahinda Dhammaduta Propagating Society, which serves the socio-welfare needs of the lower strata of Indian people.

New van launched with gratitude

On Sunday 25 February, Nalanda members and devotees witnessed the launching of the Society’s new passenger van with much gratitude and appreciation.  Founder Bro. Tan led the recitation of ‘parittas’ to inaugurate the van, and named it ‘S. K. Aruna’, meaning “the arrival of dawn”.  This was followed by a simple blessing ceremony by everyone present.

Tragic air-crash in Kathmandu

Just days after the 4th anniversary of MH370’s disappearance, another tragic air-crash happened this afternoon in Nepal when a turboprop passenger aircraft was attempting to land at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport.  Flight BS 211 belonging to US-Bangla Airlines was flying on a scheduled flight from the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka to Kathmandu with 71 people on board.

Tōhoku tragedy remembered

On 11 March 2011, at 2.46PM local time, a catastrophic 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan near Sendai, causing widespread damages and triggering a powerful tsunami that struck coastal villages and towns with great ferocity.
