1st anniversary of King Bhumibol

Today marks the first anniversary of the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.  His Majesty was the longest-reigning monarch in the world at the time of his death last October at age 88.  He is still beloved and sorely missed by Thai people everywhere, with 12.7 million visitors having paid respects to his remains at the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

National Conference on Buddhist Civilization

Leading Buddhist federations in Malaysia came together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of our nation’s independence in a meaningful way – by organising the “National Conference on Buddhist Civilization” from 15 to 17 September 2017, in Sungai Petani.  The unique gathering of 130 Buddhist leaders from all traditions aimed at spotlighting the long history of Buddhist presence in this country, especially in northern Peninsular Malaysia.

Learning to live harmoniously

On Sunday 27 August, Achariya S. Vijaya shared with us how harmonious living leads to happiness.  Living in harmony means not harbouring conflicts with the world, nor within ourselves.  Suffering arises when we try to conquer or change the world to suit our liking.  However the world and its quirks have always been the way they are for a long time.  Since we cannot change the world, we should instead change our attitude towards it by accepting the way it works, and learning to live in harmony with it.

Enhancing communication skills

Nalanda Training & Enhancement Centre (NTEC) was established on 1 May 2017 to provide appropriate training programmes to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of Nalanda members in serving the community.  Since May, NTEC has played a pivotal role in guiding the growth of ‘Dhamma Families’ with fortnightly video recordings on various Buddhist subjects.
