‘Buddha Day’ Volunteer Appreciation

On Sunday 21 May, Nalanda had a meaningful gathering to thank volunteers and devotees for the successfully-run ‘Buddha Day’ celebrations recently.  Bro. Tan took the opportunity to share with everyone the ways of skillfully working together in harmony, and how to practise Dhamma by being mindfully aware of ourselves and our environment.

State-level Wesak celebration

On Saturday 20 May, a team of Nalandians attended the Selangor State-level Wesak celebration organised by the State government and supported by the Selangor Buddhist Development Council (SBDC). The celebration saw a wonderful gathering of Selangor Buddhist community leaders and activists.  The event served to showcase traditional and contemporary Buddhist cultural performances from Malaysia and neighbouring countries.

New books published in July

Nalanda Buddhist Society has just printed another 17,000 copies of Ajahn Buddhadāsa’s booklets, namely “Nibbāna for Everyone” (NEW release), “Kamma in Buddhism”*, “Living in the Present”*, and “Getting Started in Mindfulness with Breathing”* (*all second editions) for free distribution throughout Malaysia.  In addition, Nalanda Institute also published a new book – “The Buddha-Word : Discovering the Essential” – for WACANA 2017 Buddhist Conference held on 1 July.

Barack Obama: preserve Borobudur

Thanks and appreciation for supporting WACANA 2017

WACANA 2017 Buddhist Conference successfully concluded yesterday (1 July) with much rejoicing and compliments from the speakers, participants, and volunteers.  We are grateful to devotees who came from all over Malaysia, as well as participants from Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, and Australia, to take part in the high-spirited Conference.  Thank you for your enthusiastic support!

Nalanda Institute’s 10th Anniversary

1 July 2017 marks the 10th Anniversary of Nalanda Institute Malaysia. Since its inception in 2007, the Institute has successfully organized many Dhamma courses and programmes, benefitting nearly 12,000 participants throughout Malaysia. We would like to pay tribute to everyone who has played a role to guide and shape our path in the past decade. We have grown tremendously, thanks to your support in many ways.

Biggest Buddhist conference in Malaysia awaits you

Nalanda Institute officers and volunteers are in high spirits with anticipation to host more than 600 participants of WACANA 2017 tomorrow.  Preparations for the biggest Buddhist conference of the year in Malaysia are almost complete.  We expect a hundred outstation and overseas guests to arrive in Kuala Lumpur today by road, rail, and air; many of them will be putting up at Saujana Hotel in Subang and Nalanda Centre tonight.

Sangha members visit Nalanda

On Saturday 13 May, Nalanda Centre was blessed by the visit of 20 monks and 2 nuns from Sri Lanka.  The monastic congregation had come to Malaysia to serve the local community on the occasion of Wesak, when many Buddhist centres requested Sangha members to conduct religious activities.

“Dhamma Forum” to mark 10th anniversary of Nalanda Institute

We are honoured to have Nalanda founder Bro. Tan, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama, and Achariya Tan Siang Chye to jointly conduct a “Dhamma Forum” this Sunday morning.  They will form a panel together with other speakers and moderators of WACANA 2017 to discuss and answer many fundamental questions related to Buddhist practice.

Dhamma tour of Kelantan for teenagers

During the recent June holidays, 80 teenage Nalanda Dhamma School students from Sri Serdang and Johor Bahru embarked on a journey of discovery to Kelantan – the most north-easterly state of Peninsular Malaysia – and an important centre of Buddhism centuries ago.
