Come join the Heritage Procession

The ‘Buddha Day’ Heritage Procession at Nalanda is a unique cultural and spiritual experience.  Once a year, the Buddharupam is conveyed on a wooden sedan by traditionally dressed devotees, to the harmonious beating of drums and gongs. Beautifully hand-crafted paraphernalia is carried by devotees holding candle-lights.

Celebrating the eve of ‘Buddha Day’

Today is the eve of Wesak full-moon ‘Buddha Day’.  A very significant spiritual moment happened in the life of the Buddha this day before His Enlightenment.  He received food offering from Lady Sujata and with strength regained, He sat meditating under the pipal tree throughout the night, and achieved Awakening the next dawn!

Wesak Observance at NEO Centres

Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ commemorates the Blessed One’s Enlightenment 26 centuries ago.  This Wednesday’s full-moon marks the 2,561st anniversary of His passing; hence the Buddhist Era (B.E.) 2561.  Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centres in Johor Bahru, Sungai Petani, and Kuala Lumpur will observe ‘Buddha Day’ on 9 May (Wesak Eve) and 10 May (Wesak ‘Buddha Day’) with a series of programmes listed here.

‘Buddha Jayanti’ Exhibition launched

Nalanda founder Bro. Tan was invited to launch the ‘Buddha Jayanti’ Exhibition yesterday afternoon accompanied by members of Nalanda Dhamma School.  The exhibition is an annual project undertaken by Dhamma School teachers and students to celebrate Wesak ‘Buddha Day’.

‘Buddha Day’ celebration begins

The celebration of Wesak begins at Nalanda Centre today with morning service at 9.00am, followed by Dhamma talks by Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama on the “Nine Attributes of the Buddha”, and Mandarin talk by Bro. Ooi Boon Keat on “佛陀的九种德行”.  This afternoon at 2.00pm, there will be a forum on “Getting to know the Buddha”, featuring Dharma Drum Malaysia Superintendent Venerable Bhikshuni Changzao, and Bro. Wong from Bodhi KL Musical Group.
