His Majesty’s memory lives on

For many years, Nalanda Buddhist Society had been marking 5 December with an annual felicitation message to the people of Thailand on the occasion of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s birthday.  This year, we are continuing with that tradition, but the message is inevitably sombre.  The late King is no more; but his legacy and memory will no doubt go on forever.

Nalanda Free School Johor Bahru holds ‘Appreciation Day’

On Sunday 27 October, NEO Centre Johor Bahru was bustling with festive atmosphere as students, parents, teachers and volunteers gathered for the annual Nalanda Free School ‘Appreciation Day’.  The joyful occasion was to celebrate students’ academic achievements, positive learning attitude and good behaviour throughout the year. The teachers expressed approval of individual students not only for improvements seen in their exam results, but also in their conduct and overall character development.

Exhibition on ‘Wisdom Park’ launched

A special exhibition on Wisdom Park was officially launched on Sunday 27 November at Nalanda Centre. The exhibition is held in honour of the first anniversary of Wisdom Park Development Committee (WPDC), which was formed in October 2015 and entrusted to conceptualise a “Master Development Plan” for Wisdom Park, reflecting its function as a national Buddhist education hub.

The happiness of giving alms

It was another much anticipated third Saturday of the month, when Nalanda’s educational ‘Pindacara’ programme took place in Seri Kembangan on 19 November.  As usual, throngs of devotees had prepared food to be offered to Sangha members on their alms-round at Jalan Besar market.

Leaving for camp in Johor Bahru

Early this morning, 20 Nalandian youths and Dhamma School students gathered for chanting at Nalanda Centre before leaving for Johor Bahru to help conduct a 3-day Dhamma camp for teenagers there.  This trip is a wholesome start to their year-end school holidays as it promises much learning and community service.

Prayers for victims of air-crash

A tragic air-crash took place yesterday in Colombia, South America where a chartered airplane carrying the Brazilian football team ‘Chapecoense’ crashed near the town of Rionegro.  75 passengers and crew on board were killed, but miraculously, six others survived.  The ill-fated Avro RJ85 was en route from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, to Medellin, Colombia when it crashed.

Nalanda Free School ‘Appreciation Day’

On Saturday 22 October, Nalanda Free School held its annual ‘Appreciation Day’ to honour all its volunteer teachers who have lovingly given their time and effort to educate the community.  The occasion also provided an opportunity for students to show their gratitude and appreciation to their teachers.  Some students came up with a dance performance which greatly amused everyone present.

On Sunday 16 October, Nalanda Youth Centre was blessed to have Bro. Tan join our weekly Sunday Service.  Bro. Tan gave a Dhamma teaching on how we can bring about positive change in the world through the cultivation of compassion.

Family outing to Putrajaya

On 23 October, Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch organised a family trip for its members to Taman Putra Perdana in Putrajaya.  Sixty-four Nalandians and their family members, including students from the Dhamma School, took part in the outing.
