Year-long goodness worth celebrating

On Sunday 4 December, Nalanda members gathered in celebratory spirits for the final Members’ Day of 2016.  Founder Bro. Tan graced the big family gathering, commenting that 2016 has indeed been an amazing and successful year for Nalanda.  This success is also found in the intangible spiritual advancement of individual Nalandians.

New Year Eve Chanting & Blessing

As 2016 draws to a close, let us take this opportunity to reflect, express gratitude, and radiate loving-kindness to the whole world.  We invite you to come with your family and friends to ‘calm down’ to the New Year at Nalanda Centre on Saturday, 31 December.  We shall be having the traditional meditation, chanting and blessings from 11pm to 12am on New Year’s Eve to welcome 2017.

Alternative way to celebrate birthday

7 December marked the 89th birthday of the most Venerable Dr. Henepola Gunaratana Nayaka Thero, a highly-regarded speaker, meditation teacher, and senior prelate in North America.  Nalandians and devotees took the opportunity to gather after the weekly meditation session to recite verses of blessing dedicated to him.

Thank you for a marvellous year!

2016 had been another great year for Nalanda. With the full-functioning of facilities in Sri Serdang, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur and Sungai Petani, we were able to host many more people who came to learn and practise Dhamma.

Visit by Universiti Malaya student leaders

On Sunday 27 November, 12 committee members of Persatuan Buddhis Universiti Malaysia (PBUM) paid a visit to Nalanda Centre.  It was the first visit for the new management committee, who came to explore and learn more about the work done at Nalanda.

Dhamma talk by Āyasmā Aggacitta

On Saturday 26 November, Nalanda Centre was honoured to host Āyasmā Aggacitta, who gave a Dhamma teaching on mindfulness in everyday life.  The evening began with meditation guided by Ven. Aggacitta, who is the Abbot of Sasanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary in Taiping, Perak.  He taught that awareness and mindfulness should not only be practised during ‘formal’ meditation sittings, but at every moment throughout the day.

Living in harmony with all beings

In conjunction with Nalanda’s monthly ‘Sāmaggī Day’ on 23 October, Dato’ Charlie Chia gave a Dhamma teaching on how to live in true harmony.  He spoke about the six conditions of congeniality in reference to the Māhaparinibbāna Sutta and Dhammapada Commentary.
