Ven. Gunaratana arrives at Sri Serdang

Nalandians were overjoyed to receive Ven. Sri Pandita Henepola Gunaratana Nāyaka Māha Thero when he arrived at Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang at 7.45pm yesterday evening.  Earlier, venerable had left NEO Centre Johor Bahru after staying there on Friday, 8 January.

NEO Centre – “Small is beautiful”

Since its opening last month, the Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Sungai Petani has received many compliments for its simple elegance and pragmatic design.  The 4,300 square feet facility houses a Dhamma Teaching & Meditation Hall, a reference library, office, meeting room, two guest rooms, and a kitchen.

Nalanda Centre to host Ven. H. Gunaratana

We are very pleased to welcome Venerable Sri Pandita Henepola Gunaratana Nāyaka Māha Thero to Malaysia!  Ven. Gunaratana (fondly known as ‘Bhante G’ to many of his students) is a renowned Buddhist meditation teacher and the author of several influential works, such as the best-selling ‘Mindfulness in Plain English’.  He is held in high esteem in the Buddhist world as a scholar and practitioner.

Nalanda Youth Centre started the year with a lively gathering of new and old members last Sunday (3 January) for an induction programme.  The high-spirited youngsters had plenty of fun getting to know each other and strengthening their bonds of friendship.

Service Sunday with Ven. Sumangalā

On the first Sunday of the New Year, Venerable Bhikkhuni Sumangalā gave a Dhamma talk at Nalanda Centre where she spoke on “Buddhism and Happiness”.  Ven. Sumangalā said if we wanted to achieve a high level of happiness, then we should follow the Buddha’s teaching and walk the ‘Middle Path’.

First ‘Pindacāra’ for 2016

Last Saturday (2 January), Venerable Sumanaransi and Venerable Sukhi were invited to participate in the first alms-round of the year at Sri Petaling and Happy Garden markets.  This monthly ‘Pindacāra’ programme is part of Nalanda’s efforts to educate the public on the importance of supporting the noble monastic order and to understand what is proper Buddhist practice.

On Friday, 25 December 2015, the Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Sungai Petani was officiated by Venerable B. Sri Saranankara Nāyaka Thero.  The simple but meaningful ceremony was attended by Nalanda members from all over the country.

Joyful first day at Dhamma School

Nalanda Dhamma School had its first session of 2016 today with great zest, and packed with fun learning activities for teenagers and children.  The School now operates at 4 different locations – the Teenage School at Nalanda Centre, Junior School at Nalanda House Sri Serdang, Junior School at NEO Centre Kuala Lumpur, and another Teenage School at NEO Centre Johor Bahru.

Preparing for the first ‘Service Sunday’ of 2016
