On Sunday 29 March, Nalandian youths organised a ‘Charity Car Wash’ at Nalanda House, Sri Serdang to raise funds for Dhamma Education, and the “Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia”, an organisation which aims to fulfil the wishes of terminally-ill children.

Informative ‘Open Day’ at Nalanda Centre

On Sunday 29 March, Nalanda held its first ‘Open Day’ to enable new visitors to be introduced and given an informative tour of Nalanda Centre.  As the Centre was expanded through the generosity of the public, we wish that the community would benefit from this initiative and enjoy a spiritually-charged visit.  The ‘Open Day’ was hosted by Bro. Charlie Teng and Sis. Buddhini Tan, EXCO Members of Nalanda Buddhist Society.

Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch Members’ Day

On Saturday 28 March, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch held our monthly Members’ Day at the usual meeting place – Gurun Buddhist Association.  Members who attended the gathering were glad to have Bro. Tan’s presence during the meeting.  Branch Committee Member Dr. Aw shared his reflections on the “Mūlapariyāya Sutta” with the gathering.  After which, Dr. Song led an interactive discussion session on the topics from Venerable Ajahn Jayasaro’s book – “Without and Within”.

Nalanda Team at Times Square Kuala Lumpur

On Saturday 28 March, Nalanda is honoured with an invitation to participate in the 5th Berjaya Founder’s Day celebration at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur.  Berjaya Founder’s Day is an annual celebration of philanthropy, volunteerism and community service.  It is held in conjunction with the birthday of Berjaya Group’s founder, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Vincent Tan.

Malaysian Youth Photography Competition 2015

Nalanda Youth Centre is organising “The Silver Lining” Photography Competition with the theme ‘Random Acts of Kindness’.  The competition aims at galvanizing youths into observing and participating in random acts of kindness towards others so as to create a more mindful, caring and compassionate community.

Dāna at proposed NEO Centre Sungai Petani

On Saturday 28 March, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch invited Venerable Thipako and Venerable Chye from Sammāditthi Meditation Grove for lunch dāna at the proposed Nalanda Outreach & Education (NEO) Centre, located in Bandar Mutiara, Sungai Petani.  The dāna was specially arranged to mark the beginning of construction work of the new centre, and to invoke the blessings of the ‘Three Jewels’ for the successful completion of the project.

Kelantan Dhamma Teachers visit Nalanda

A group of 12 earnest Dhamma School teachers and Buddhist leaders from Kelantan came to Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang for a fruitful learning visit from 20 – 22 March.  They were warmly welcomed and hosted by Nalanda Dharma School (N.D.S.) Director Sis. Sunanda Ong and N.D.S. Facilitators.

Sangha Room ‘officiated’ by Ajahn Sumedho

During his visit to Sri Serdang on Sunday 15 March, Nalandians invited Venerable Ajahn Sumedho and 3 accompanying forest bhikkhus to ‘officiate’ the new Sangha Room located at Level 4 (next to the Dhamma Teaching Hall) of Nalanda Centre.  Founder of Nalanda Bro. Tan invited the venerable monks to accept the ‘room offering’ for the use of visiting Sangha members.  Ajahn Sumedho graciously accepted the invitation and became the first person to occupy the room.

Nalanda Dharma School Stay-in Programme

From 18 – 20 March, Nalanda Dharma School (N.D.S.) students participated in a 3-day stay-in programme at Nalanda Centre with the theme “A Life Less Ordinary Begins Here”.  The 47 participants, including 5 students from Johor Bahru branch, had plenty of opportunities to build their character, courage and confidence throughout the camp.

“Good bye, Mr. Lee!”

Today is the funeral of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew – the founding father of modern Singapore, statesman, and visionary extraordinaire.  He has undoubtedly done many good and great things to lead his nation and people to progress and success.  And judging by the hundreds of thousands of mourners who waited patiently for hours to pay tribute to him at Parliament House, the late Mr. Lee was also much admired, respected, and loved by his countrymen.
