Joyful ‘Pindacāra’ in Sri Petaling and Happy Garden

On Saturday, 2 August, devotees and volunteers participated joyfully in the monthly ‘Pindacāra’ (monks going on alms-round) Programme at the Sri Petaling and Happy Garden morning markets.  We were honoured by the presence of two senior venerables from Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple Sentul, to participate in this alms-round.

Sunday talk on ‘Harmonious Speech’

On Sunday 27 July, Sis. Tan Yee Yong delivered a Dhamma Talk on “Harmonious Speech” based on the teachings of the Buddha.  This topic was a fitting one because it happened to be ‘Samaggi Day’ (‘unity and concord’ observance day), which falls on the last Sunday of every month.

Teachers’ Day Celebration in Johor Bahru

On Saturday 19 July, teachers and students of Nalanda Free School Johor Bahru Branch celebrated “Teachers’ Day” at NEO Centre JB.  Since its inception, teachers, students and their parents formed a firm rapport, encouraged by the active participation of all parties.  Teachers and parents are well aware of the roles they play in guiding students to experience holistic education, where good values and refined culture are instilled.

Expansion Project progressing well

Mid-way Point – 90 days on, 90 more to go!

Today marks the 90th day that work began on the Nalanda Centre Expansion Project, and also the pivotal mid-way point towards its completion!  Construction has been progressing steadily with 100% safety record.  Work is now concentrated on the two upper floors of the 4-storey building.

Farewell, dear brother!

On Friday 8 August, Nalandian youths had a farewell gathering in honour of Nicholas Lee who is leaving for overseas studies.  Youth leaders Bro. Disheng and Sis. Sumana rallied youth members for a heart-warming sharing session where everyone expressed their support for Nicholas and for each other’s future plans.

Branch Leaders gather at Nalanda Centre

The chairmen of Nalanda’s branches in Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Petani and Johor Bahru gathered at Nalanda Centre over the weekend for consultations with Nalanda’s leadership over the next quarter’s programmes and activities.  The chairmen were also brought on a tour of the adjoining building currently under reconstruction, and expressed their support for the successful completion of the ‘Nalanda Centre Expansion Project’ that will benefit the entire Malaysian Buddhist community.

Reflective Memorial Service for MH17

On Wednesday 23 July, Nalanda Centre was filled with devotees who came to participate in a Memorial Service for the casualties of MH17.  Bro. Tan led devotees in pūja, chanting and Mettā meditation.  After which, a short but impactful video clip showing the last moments of MH17 and aftermaths of the tragedy was presented.  Following that was an inspiring Dhamma talk by Bro Tan.

In Remembrance – MH370

Today marks exactly 5 months since ‘MH370’ vanished over the Indian Ocean on 8 March 2014.  The mystery of its disappearance remains unsolved; and the memory and pain of those who lost their loved ones remain fresh.  Since ‘MH370’, we have again been shocked by the crashing of a few other airliners in July, including another Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 – the ‘MH17’ – with a great loss of lives.
