Joyful Dhammaduta tour to Kelantan

A team of 13 Nalandians, led by Sis. Sunanda Ong the Director of Nalanda Dharma School (NDS), had a fruitful Dhammaduta tour to Kelantan over the Christmas holidays.  The tour programme included a “Teenagers’ Learning Camp” and a “Dhamma School Teachers’ Workshop”, both jointly organized by NDS and Persatuan Buddhis Wakaf Bharu.

“24-hour Metta” – Illuminating the World with Loving-kindness

On Saturday 28 December, a group of Nalandians participated in “24-hour Metta – Illuminating the World with Metta” event at Samadhi Vihara, Shah Alam to radiate loving kindness for world peace, stability and harmony.  The Nalandian team was led by Deputy President, Bro Lee Teck Beng.

Service Sunday Talk by Dr. Phang Cheng Kar

On Sunday 22 December, Nalandians and devotees were privileged to attend a talk by Dr. Phang Cheng Kar, a practising psychiatrist and a popular Dharma speaker.  The title of his talk was ‘Managing the 8 Winds of Change with Equanimity’.  In his introduction, Dr. Phang mentioned that all men are subjected to 4 desirable conditions, Gain (labho), Fame (yaso), Praise (pasamsa), and Happiness (sukha), as well as 4 undesirable conditions namely, Loss (alabho), Defame (ayaso), Blame (ninda), and Unhappiness (dukkha). 2004 Tsunami Remembrance Day

Nine years ago today, on 26 December 2004, a massive earthquake off Sumatra triggered a Tsunami that swept across 14 countries and killed a quarter million people.  It was among the worst natural disasters in human history.  But the aftermath of the tragedy saw an outpouring of compassion and donation, which brought out the best aspects of humanity.

Nalanda Kedah Branch preparing for 2014

In conjunction with Bro. Tan’s visit to Kedah, the Pro-tem Committee of Nalanda Kedah Branch met with him on Sunday, 22 December in Sungai Petani to discuss upcoming programmes for next year. In 2014, the committee agreed that they need to build two things – firstly the Nalanda Northern team (people), and secondly the NEO Centre in Sungai Petani (temple).

Dharma School Mission to Kelantan

A team of 12 Nalandians led by Dharma School Director Sis. Sunanda Ong left Nalanda Centre at 8.00pm this evening for an overnight train ride to Kelantan.  The Nalanda team comprising 3 teachers and 9 all-boys student group will stay in Bachok, Kelantan for 5 days to conduct a Dhamma camp for local teenagers.  In the meantime, Sis. Sunanda will also conduct a separate training session for Kelantanese Dhamma School volunteer-teachers.

Pindacāra at Seri Kembangan Market

On Saturday 21 December, Nalanda volunteers and devotees participated in our monthly Pindacāra (monks going on alms-round) at the Jalan Besar morning market in Seri Kembangan. Three venerable monks accepted our invitation to go on alms-round for this last scheduled Pindacāra for 2013.  Read more

Rejoicing over Students’ Good Results

Nalanda Dharma School (NDS) and Nalandians are rejoicing over the achievement of our students who recently received their “Lower Secondary Examination” (PMR) results. Choo Yi Kang and Yeap Heng Yii obtained perfect scores in their exams. Yi Kang obtained 8A’s in his PMR exams, and another 8A’s in his “Unified Examination Certificate” (UEC) exams, making it a perfect attainment of 16A’s. Heng Yii similarly scored A’s in all 15 subjects he took in both exams.

Dharma School Students Stay-In Programme

From 10 – 13 December, 21 students from Nalanda Dharma School joined the holiday ‘Stay-in Programme’ at Nalanda Centre to learn about the importance of Nalanda’s Core Values, Buddhist culture, and to brush up our chanting skills.
