NalandaTV reports on Walkathon 2014

Episode 7 of NalandaTV reports on the recent “Nalanda Walkathon 2014” held in Sri Serdang, Selangor.  Despite the haze and drizzle, around 1,500 participants and volunteers turned up to support this charity “Walk for Education”.  Watch inspiring scenes and interviews in this interesting episode!

Prayers for Missing Korean Ferry Passengers

On 16 April, a South Korean ferry enroute to Jeju Island sank 20 km off the mainland.  Even after hours of search and rescue, almost 300 passengers were still listed as missing in the cold sea waters by night fall.  The majority of 476 passengers on board were high school students and their teachers on a planned tour to Jeju Island.

Weekend of bonding and learning

Over the weekend, Nalandians and devotees in Johor Bahru came together for a time of bonding and Dhamma learning.  On Saturday, 12 April members of Nalanda JB Branch had their first Members’ Day held at the NEO Centre in Taman Johor Jaya.  Founder Bro. Tan was present to share on Buddhist culture, teachings and practice.  Members had an interactive session and shared their reflections, in line with Nalanda’s 8 Core Values.

A fruitful day of Dhamma Learning

On Saturday 12 April, Nalanda Dharma School Facilitators explored the ‘Mangala Sutta’ – the discourse on 38 supreme blessings expounded by the Buddha.  “To live at a suitable place; to cherish wife and children, to have a peaceful occupation, and to abstain from unwholesome states” are but a few blessings listed in this enlightening discourse.

NEO Centre KL unscathed by fire next door

At approximately 10.20pm last night (14 April), Nalanda Centre received an emergency call reporting that thick black smoke was billowing from the roof of NEO Centre in Happy Garden. Nalanda officers who had just finished the Uposatha Day Evening Service rushed to the scene 13km away at Taman Gembira, Kuala Lumpur to investigate.

123rd Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

Today marks the 123rd birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar – the great Indian Statesman, Social Reformist and Buddhist leader.  Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia pays tribute to the late Dr. Ambedkar for his seminal work to improve the lives of downtrodden millions in India, and in reintroducing and propagating Buddhism in its country of origin.  Anumodantu.

Nalanda Johor Bahru hosted Ven. Kumāra

Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch recently hosted Ven. Kumāra Bhikkhu from Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary Taiping, from 7 to 10 April.  On Tuesday 8 April, Ven. Kumāra gave a Mandarin Dhamma talk at NEO Centre JB, with the title ‘如何面对负性思维和感受’ (“How to overcome negative thoughts and emotions” ).  The talk was most relevant as nowadays people are stretched and stressed beyond limit by many commitments and engagements.  The Shrine Hall was packed with devotees eager to enhance their well-being.

Nalandians visit temples for Sinhala New Year

On Friday 11 April, Nalandian officers and devotees visited the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul and the Buddhist Māha Vihāra in Brickfields in conjunction with the Sinhala New Year celebration.  Bro. Tan and Deputy President Bro. Lee Teck Beng led the Nalandians to pay respects to the Māha Sangha and to wish the Sri Lankan venerables a joyous new year.
