Kelantanese Visitors at Nalanda Centre

On Saturday, 31 August, Nalanda received a visit from the Persatuan Buddha Wakaf Bharu Dhamma Class.  The 47 Kelantanese Dhamma Class teachers and students were on an excursion to gain a better understanding and more exposure to the wider Buddhist community in Kuala Lumpur.

Theravada Council meet at Nalanda Centre

The Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM) Executive Committee met at Nalanda Centre yesterday for a special workshop to chart the Council's future strategic direction in the immediate to medium-term.  Chairing the 10 am to 5 pm workshop was TBCM President Bro. Chim Siew Choon.  It was attended by the Council's Deputy President Bro. Kung Kok Chye, Honorary Secretary Bro. Ananda Fong, Honorary Treasurer Bro. Teoh Tiang Kwang, and Councillors Bro. K Don Premaseri, Sis. Paruadi Ramasamy, Bro. Lim Boon Hang, and Sis. Liang Mei Ling.

Nalanda commemorates Ajahn Buddhadasa

Nalanda Buddhist Society’s Ajahn Buddhadasa Commemoration Programme began at 9.00am today with meditation, pūja and chanting at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  Director of Nalanda Library Bro. Ananda Fong introduced the programme to the congregation in his opening remarks.  Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan then stated the purpose of this event, which is to introduce more inspiring Buddhist teachers to the Malaysian Buddhist community.

The Young Buddhist Quiz 2013

On Saturday, 31 August, nine teams of teenagers aged 13 to 16 from five Dhamma schools came together to participate in a friendly competition – the “Young Buddhist Quiz” at Nalanda Centre. The 36 students were representing Bandar Utama Buddhist Society Sunday Dhamma School, BMSM Samadhi Vihara, Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society Sunday Dhamma School, Nalanda Dharma School, and Shah Alam Buddhist Society Sunday Dhamma School.

Nalanda’s Merdeka Day Message 2013

Today we celebrate our nation’s 56th Anniversary of Independence – ‘Merdeka Day’.  We are thankful to be able to observe this milestone in relative peace, harmony and prosperity.  We have to thank our forefathers and elders for their untiring work to hand us this inheritance which is Malaysia.  Our gratitude also goes to civil servants, private enterprises, good citizens and our foreign guest workers for helping us in the challenging task of nation-building.

Joint Session of BCA Sunday Schools

The Buddhist Community Alliance (BCA) Dhamma School teachers and students had a wonderful get-together on Sunday, 25 August 2013 at Nalanda Centre.  Friends from Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society, Seremban Sudhamma Buddhist Society, Sungai Long Buddhist Society and Nalanda Buddhist Society reunited for a day of joint Sunday Service and learning.

Buddhist Community Alliance appoints new Director

The Buddhist Community Alliance (BCA) held its bimonthly Coordination Committee Meeting on Sunday, 25 August 2013 at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  At the meeting, the previous rotating chairman and President of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society Bro. Tan Kim Chan, formally handed over the chairmanship to Bro. Lee Kong Foo, President of Nalanda Buddhist Society.  Also present were President of Seremban Sudhamma Buddhist Society Dr. Oo Swee Khoon, Bro. Henry Wong of Sungai Long Buddhist Society, and representatives from BCA member organisations.

Another fruitful visit to Johor Bahru

It was another packed weekend at NEO Centre as Bro.Tan came on his monthly visit to Johor Bahru.  He gave a Dhamma teaching in English on Saturday 24 August, in memory of Sis. GG Tan, Julie Ang, Lee Ah Yem, and Jennie Cheong who passed away in an accident 4 years ago while on a visit to India.  Bro. Tan gave another uplifting talk in Mandarin on Sunday 25 August, in honour of Nalanda's late Spiritual Advisor Ven. Dr. K Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero.

In Memoriam

25 August marks the 4th anniversary of Sis. G.G.Tan, Lee Ah Yem, Julie Ang, and Jennie Cheong’s passing. The four of them perished in an accident on 25 August 2009 while on a pilgrimage to Ladakh, India.

Enriching Learning Moments

On 18 August, Nalanda Dharma School conducted a Facilitators’ Training Programme to enhance teaching skills.  11 facilitators from both the Sri Serdang and Happy Garden branches enjoyed a day full of sharing, learning, and team-bonding!  Through various interactive activities and group discussions, the Dharma School facilitators gained more understanding of teaching, and build greater trust between each other.  It was indeed a rewarding and enriching day for them!
