Career Talk for Youths

On 17 March 2013, a career talk with the topic “Plan Your Education and Career Now” was held at Nalanda Centre. The speaker, Mr. Lok Eng Hong, pointed out that the world is ever-changing very quickly. We should keep up with the news every day and be competent to cope with the rapidly changing market demands. Employers can interpret a person’s character by merely viewing the first page of one’s resume.

Arrival of Luang Pu Tohn

Nalandians welcoming the arrival of Luang Pu Tohn with great reverence. The arrival of one of the most venerated monks in Thailand, Luang Pu Tohn of the Thai forest tradition at KLIA was received with great warmth and reverence by the Thai Buddhist community in Kuala Lumpur as well as by Malaysian devotees.  Luang Pu Tohn is in Kuala Lumpur at the kind invitation of Khun Dr. Romdej Phisalaphong, the First Secretary at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

“The Present”

I always have the perspective that "Now" is the best gift ever, and Spencer Johnson made it more obvious.   For instance, Spencer wrote something about "being in the present, pay attention to what is important now, enjoy the moment" which was reflected on the young boy in his story.  He realized that his work was getting easier bit by bit by just focusing on the task at the moment.

Nalanda Dharma School Trip

Education can take place beyond the classroom.  On 10 March, students of Nalanda Dharma School had an outing to the Kuala Lumpur Crafts Complex to broaden their horizons on the handicraft industry.  Apart from visiting the exhibitions, students were also given a chance to try their hands on making some simple crafts.

18 March 2013 marks the 95th birth anniversary of Nalanda’s late Spiritual Advisor, the Most Venerable Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero. This day is also Nalanda Patron’s Day, an annual event to commemorate and appreciate all our donors, benefactors and volunteers who have contributed tremendously to the growth of Nalanda over the years.

Visit by Singapore Buddhist Fellowship (BF)

The Buddha image sits on a high platform in the middle of the Shrine hall, greeting all visitors to Nalanda with perfect equanimity and compassion. On 16 March, members of Singapore Buddhist Fellowship (BF) arrived at Nalanda Centre to a warm welcome and hearty lunch. They were then guided on a tour of the building before proceeding to a “Meet-the-Author” session with Mr. Vijaya Samarawickrama.
