Peace and ‘metta’ in New Year Eve Service

In the closing hour of the year 2023, a veil of peace fell upon Nalanda Centre as the congregation came together for a quiet and spiritual count-down to the new 2024 year.  Having just concluded the Dhamma School’s Honours Day celebrations, like-minded friends partook in chanting and ‘metta’ meditation to calm-down the mind at the New Year Eve Service on Sunday 31 December.

Mandarin Dhamma talk by Ven. Jutipañño

We invite you to come and learn from Venerable Jutipañño Mahāthero on Sunday, 14 January.  A monk of Malaysian Chinese descent, Ven. Jutipañño was ordained at Wat Bhodhisampan, Chonburi in 1991.  He returned to Malaysia from Thailand in 2000, and established Dhamma Light Meditation Centre at Api-Api, Johor, where he currently serves as its abbot.  Ven. Jutipañño also previously served on the Monastic Advisory Panel of the Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia.

On Sunday 31 December, we were priviledged to host Ven. Professor Emeritus Dr. K.L. Dhammajoti at Nalanda Centre.  Accompanying Ven. Dhammajoti was Ven. Senior Professor M. Dhammajothi Thero, Director of Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya, who shared the admirable charitable work led by Ven. Dhammajoti and Sangha members for the communities in Sri Lanka, to the rejoice of the congregation.

Pray for victims of earthquake in Japan

Yesterday, 1 January 2024, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck central Japan, near Ishikawa Prefecture’s Noto Peninsula at around 4.10pm local time. It was followed by a series of strong aftershocks which reportedly killed at least 48 people, injured dozens and sparked fires that destroyed homes.  The quake's epicentre was in the Noto region, a total of more than 51,000 people in five prefectures along the coastal area were instructed to evacuate following tsunami warnings.

Nalanda Dhamma School 19th Anniversary

Today, 1 January 2024 marks the 19th Anniversary of Nalanda Dhamma School.  To commemorate this special occasion, Nalanda members, facilitators and students gathered at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul to pay respects to our Spiritual Advisor, Ven. Sri Saranankara Nāyaka Thero and venerable Sangha members there.
