Dhamma Schools prepare for Honours Day

For the past weeks, Nalanda Dhamma Schools' facilitators and students have been working together to prepare for the their big event of the year – the “School Honours Day”!  Teenager and junior students, as well as Family Dhamma School students have been collaborating to show their appreciation to parents, facilitators, supporters and benefactors who have supported the Schools throughout the year.

New Year Eve Service & Chanting

As this year ends and the new year dawns, let us take some time to reflect, express gratitude, and radiate loving-kindness to the whole world.  Join us at Nalanda Centre to ‘calm-down’ to the new year with good spiritual friends this Sunday 31 December, at the New Year Eve Service.  The programme starts at 11pm and includes chanting, meditation and sharing of merits.

Nalanda Free School has been providing free tuition, quality teaching, personal attention, and other educational support to academically weak and needy students since 2010.  For the coming 2024 academic year, Free School tuition class schedules at Sri Serdang and Johor Bahru are firmed up and available at https://www.nalanda.org.my/free-school/ for your reference.

Meditation retreat led by Luang Por Viradhammo

Over the last holiday weekend, from 22 to 26 December, over 80 participants and volunteers gathered at Wisdom Park for the Meditation Retreat led by Luang Por Viradhammo, jointly organised with Dhamma Connect.  With Luang Por’s close guidance and advice, yogis better understood how to develop moment to moment awareness and put it into practice in the meditation sessions throughout the five days.

Luang Por Viradhammo talks about awareness

On Tuesday 19 December, Nalanda members and devotees joyfully welcomed Luang Por Viradhammo, Abbot of Tisarana Monastery in Ottawa back to Nalanda, 4 years after his last visit.  Grateful to learn from Luang Por in person, the congregation listened attentively to his talk about training the mind and to experience stillness within.

Dhamma School Appreciation & Honours Day

Every year on 31 December, Nalanda Dhamma School observes its “Appreciation & Honours Day” with facilitators, students and parents coming together to express their gratitude for each other, and to thank everyone for their dedication to Dhamma learning.  This year, for the first time, parents and children of the inaugural intake of Family Dhamma School will also be part of this endearing programme.

4th Memorial of Ven. Dhammavuddho

22 December 2023 marks the 4th anniversary of the passing of Venerable Dhammavuddho Mahāthera, a Malaysian monk of Chinese descent who dedicated his life to the Dhamma.   Ordained in the Theravada tradition in 1986, he founded Vihara Buddha Gotama, a forest monastery in Perak dedicated to the practice and propagation of the Buddha’s discourses and monastic discipline.
