Reflections on Dhamma practice with Ajahn Pavaro

On Sunday 12 March, we were honoured to host Ven. Ajahn Pavaro at Nalanda Centre, a day after the retreat led by Ajahn at Wisdom Park.  In his Dhamma talk, Ajahn advised us to be relentless in our practise of the Noble Eightfold Path, even if we do not yet perceive the results which we expect.

Today marks the start of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan. This practice is intended to cultivate sensual restraint, reflection, discipline, and wholesomeness. With this cultivation, the minds of sincere practitioners will experience greater tranquility and peace.

Meditation retreat with Ven. Ajahn Pavaro

From 9 to 11 March, 40 devotees and volunteers checked in at Wisdom Park for a meditation retreat conducted by Ven. Ajahn Pavaro.  He gave instructions to retreatants on their practice before they alternated between hourly sitting and walking meditation, and over the next three days held daily ‘Q&A’ sessions to address their questions.

Free School teachers prepare for new academic year

On Saturday 18 March, Nalanda Free School teachers and volunteers gathered to prepare for the new school year, which starts today.  The School’s Principal Dr. Chwee Fang and Coordinator Sis. Nandini, welcomed all teachers, thanking them for their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of the students, especially those who struggle with their learning.

Members meet for Branch A.G.M. in KL, JB and SP

Since early March, Nalanda branch members in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani have come together for their respective Branch Annual General Meetings to carry out their constitutional duties.   Members reviewed the past year’s reports of their Management Committees and discussed plans for the year ahead as the endemic stage stabilizes.

‘Nalanda Patron’s Day’ Observance today

“Nalanda Patron’s Day” is an annual programme to commemorate and appreciate all our donors, benefactors and volunteers who have contributed tremendously to the growth of Nalanda Buddhist Society, and to the development of Buddhist education in Malaysia.  Today, 18 March 2023 also marks the 105th birth anniversary of Nalanda’s late Spiritual Advisor, the Most Venerable Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero, who christened us with the name ‘Nalanda’ exactly 20 years ago.

Nalanda Family Dhamma School starts this Sunday

This Sunday 19 March, we joyfully welcome participants of the inaugural Nalanda Family Dhamma School to NEO Centre in Happy Garden for their first school session at 9am.  This learning platform for both parents and children to grow spiritually and achieve domestic bliss, is launched in conjunction with the year-long commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of Nalanda Buddhist Society.

Reaching Nalanda Centre is now more convenient!

With the launching of MRT Putrajaya Line today, you can now reach Nalanda Centre by alighting at UPM STATION, just 1 km away.  From there, it is a 3-minute drive or 13-minute walk to Nalanda Centre. With this new development, Nalanda Centre and the vicinity of Sri Serdang is much more accessible from the city, as well as from KLIA.  We welcome you to Nalanda Centre!

Junior Dhamma School students cultivate respect and gratitude

On 3 to 5 March, 48 students and facilitators from Nalanda Junior Dhamma School spent the school holidays at Nalanda Centre to learn Dhamma and strengthen their bonds with spiritual friends.  Over the three-day programme, the students developed a better understanding of the theme “Three Jewels – My Faith and Refuge”.

Spiritual gathering on Māgha Pūja with Ven. Pemaratana

On Monday 6 March, Nalanda members and volunteers warmly welcomed Ven. Dr. S. Pemaratana, Abbot of Pittsburgh Buddhist Centre, on his first trip back to Malaysia since the pandemic.  The visit started with a tour around the Wisdom Park campus and an introduction to this educational facility dedicated to train Buddhist leaders and develop Dhamma teachers.
