It is with much joy and profound gratitude that I write this message on the happy occasion of Nalanda Institute's 16th Anniversary. This remarkable milestone symbolizes many years of unwavering dedication to the study, practice, and dissemination of the Buddha’s sublime teachings. The first few months of this year witnessed many Buddhist organisations opening up for in-person activities. With the easing of restrictions, Buddhists have been able to meet face-to-face, keeping the fervour of kalyana mitta burning bright in our community. I do hope that we will soon close the unfortunate chapter of the Covid-19 pandemic with a deep measure of optimism.

Read moreOn 8 June 2023, Venerable Alokavamsa was invited to lead the weekly Thursday meditation session at NEO Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Venerable hails from Indonesia and was residing in Nalanda for 3 weeks to visit different Buddhist centres around Malaysia. The session started with chanting and a simple guidance for meditation on ways to observe the breath. Venerable Sir then delivered a teaching on Ānāpānasati (Mindfulness of the Breath) with reference to Mahā-satipaṭṭhāna Sutta, a discourse on ways to develop mindfulness (大念处经 DN 22).

Paruadi Ramasamy led participants in a reflection of 8 verses from the Yamaka Vagga (The Chapter of Twin Verses), in which each pair consist of verses which are similar in language but bear opposite meanings to provide contrast on the path to be taken and the path to be avoided.
