Energetic & wholesome service day for Family Dhamma School

On Saturday 27 May, a total of 80 students and facilitators of Family Dhamma School had their first school outing at Wisdom Park, to cultivate family well-being and experience the joy of service.  Anchored in the morning communal chanting together with regular volunteers at Wisdom Park, the families fanned out across the grounds for learning activities.

Nalanda youths set off on study tour to Bujang Valley

This morning, 36 Nalanda youths and members set off on a 3-day study tour to Bujang Valley to visit historical and archaeological locales there.  Situated in Central Kedah, the Bujang Valley is the richest archaeological site in Malaysia.  Ruins of ancient Buddhist structures dating from the 1st Century BCE, and much-later Hindu temples dating from the 10th Century CE, can be found scattered across the district.

‘Happy Young Adults’ concludes joyfully

Just this Tuesday 30 May, the participants of ‘Happy Young Adults’ gathered for the eighth and final session of the programme aimed to help young working adults understand more about themselves and how they can overcome challenges at the workplace.  They have been learning from seasoned professionals who are also Dhamma practitioners over the last two months about various aspects of managing their lives.

Mandarin Dhamma Camp in Sungai Petani

Nalanda Sungai Petani branch is organising a Dhamma Camp from 29 June to 1 July, with the theme “Living a meaningful life with the Noble Eightfold Path”.  Venerable Lim Sukhito will be the main speaker for this camp to lead participants in understanding the Noble Eightfold Path and practising it daily to live a purposeful and fulfilling life.

On the evening of Monday 29 May, Nalanda members and volunteers welcomed Ven. Alokavamsa and Sayalay Mitta Devi to Nalanda Centre.  Venerable Alokavamsa and Sayalay Mitta Devi are both from Indonesia, and will be staying at Nalanda until the middle of June.

Full-moon Uposatha Service & Dhamma talk by Ven. Alokavamsa

We invite you to observe the Jeṭṭha full-moon with us at Nalanda, this Friday 2 June.  The evening Uposatha Service starts at 8pm with puja, meditation and a Dhamma talk by Ven. Alokavamsa, an Indonesian monk.  Ven. Alokavamsa is a practitioner at Pa-Auk Meditation Centre in Myanmar and is residing at Nalanda until 15 June, during his visit to Malaysia.  All are welcome.

Evening service with Luang Por Lai Thipadhammo

On the evening of Saturday 27 May, devotees congregated at Nalanda Centre to learn from Luang Por Lai Thīpadhammo, a senior Thai forest monk who trained under the late Ajahn Chah.  Luang Por was accompanied by Luang Por Sawang Kalyāno, Luang Por Charlie Piyadhammo, Ajahn Dton Dhirapanno and Ajahn Meng Techadhammo, who are on a Dhamma tour across Malaysia and Singapore.  The Dhamma talk was delivered by Luang Por Lai in Thai, and translated into English by Ajahn Dton.

Cultivate an independent happiness

On Friday 19 May, we warmly welcomed Ven. Rahula, a monk of Mexican descent, to Nalanda Centre for the new-moon Uposatha Service.  In his Dhamma talk on the importance and benefits of keeping the Five Precepts, Ven. Rahula said that the Buddha taught us how to attain happiness which is independent and comes from within.  However, without the right training, much of our happiness is dependent on our senses.  This kind of happiness is unstable and fleeting.
